Which of the two Canadian powerhouses do you like better? Apparently Toronto is the more uptight business oriented city, while Montreal is more laid back and has a better arts and nightlife scene.

I only live a few hours from Toronto and have been many times, so I will have to back it here. What say you Atlas?

Montreal! (My favorite city on earth) I might be moving to MTL for university. Here is a laundry list of reasons why I prefer it to Toronto:
-European vibes
-Cheaper life
-Multilingual
-Festivals year round
-Better sports
-Better music and art scene
-Architecture
-Proximity to New York and Boston
-There is a mountain in the middle of the city
-McGill
-Less sprawl
-NDP dominance
-Great pbulic transit
-Montreal is so bikeable
-Less traffic
-Better summer weather

As a Vancouverite, I personally prefer Montreal to Toronto as a place to visit.  Montreal is more culturally alive, more urbane, more historically endowed and more naturally scenic than Toronto.

Toronto has been described as a great city inhabited almost entirely by suburbanites, and the suburban attitude infects much of Toronto, even if it's core lacks that physical form.  Montreal is more of a going urban concern, and reflects that in the city and it's amenities and the attitude of it's population.  Toronto is an uptight, Anglo-Canadian city, and Montreal is most certainly not.  The climate in a Montreal summer is less stifling I find.

Despite all this, Toronto is a politically cleaner city.  Montreal is infested with corrupt engineering and construction firms that weaken the city and ruin it's crumbling infrastructure.  Toronto became the greatest metropole of Canada largely through Montreal throwing that status away in the 1960s, for good or for ill.  If you take my uncle's Old-Angle-Corporate-Executive-Tour-of-Montreal, a great deal of it is dominated by noting where things once were, before the nationalists set about trying to displace the English and Scottish commercial and professional class with Francophones.  As a non-french speaker, that more or less rules the city out as a place I could live long term.

All in  all, I voted Montreal
