A&P (The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company), once the largest retailer in the country, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is seeking to sell or close all of its stores. A&P operates grocery stores under the A&P, Food Emporium, Pathmark, Super Fresh, and Waldbaum's banners. They operate stores in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Acme Markets, Stop & Shop and Key Food Stores are among those who have bid on their stores.

Damn. My family shops at an A&P. Their newer stores are quite nice. Not sure what'll happen now.

Pathmark is rubbish, though.

Here is a list of all the stores Acme is buying, 20 of which are located in New York. All of those 20 stores are A&P-branded.

Here is a list of the 25 stores in New Jersey and New York being bought by Stop & Shop. They are only buying one New York store operating under the A&P label, which is located in Mount Kisco. The other A&P-branded store they're buying is in Closter, New Jersey.
