From The Kansas City Channel:

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- A state senator from Independence is going to extremes to protect Missouri's new budget, KMBC's Bev Chapman reported Friday.

Sen. Victor Callahan announced he is giving up his state-funded health insurance to draw attention to the thousands of people without medical insurance.

. . .
"I'm doing this today because I don't want to be a hypocrite. I intend to join the other 74,000 Missourians without health care," Callahan said.

. . .
"I'm calling on Gov. (Matt) Blunt today to lead by example -- to join with me coming off state health care until we resolve the issue," Callahan said.

Good for him, too bad more couldn't follow his example.

The full article mentions that he's a Democrat, but it was obvious.

Yep, "tax and spend" Feingold always votes against his pay raises.

That's very admirable. You know the conservatives are going to call it a stunt. You can't do anything anymore without somebody questioning your motives. I'm not going to be cynical about this and assume that his motives are well intended.

He’s an idiot unless he’s picking up coverage from somewhere else.  The way the healthcare racket works these days, if you are uninsured, you’ll get saddled with a bill at least twice as large as if you were insured, and that is if you are lucky.
