so basically a newspaper that would be forced to publish my rants? sounds good Tongue

more seriously, i think it's a good idea to formalise some of the things cinyc is doing, but only if he agrees to it.

I have some things to say about this bill, but will wait for the sponsor to speak on its behalf before going into detail.

Basically, it is just the Northeast version of the Atlasian News Service. And, the newspaper will be publishing the links to the bills that are currently on the Assembly so Northeasterners will not be going to the Regional Government section of the Forum.

And yes, you can publish your rants, concerns, whatsoever as long as it's related to the issues on the Northeast and current events.

it's worth noting, i think, that the northeast cjo already has a lot more responsibility than other regions' cjos. are we overextending the position?

Can we make a new position, the GM of the Northeast or a less-formal Editor of the (newspaper)? Just asking, what are the responsibilities of the Northeast CJO? (sorry, I'm not that knowledgeable about that)

Well, if that's the case, I'm ok with amending the act (two options)
1. A troika (Governor, Lt. Governor and the CJO) will be the editors
2. Create a new position whose job is the editor of the newspaper

The Lieutenant Governor's responsibilities are currently opening the thread for Speaker elections and updating the statute. I believe that giving the LG more responsibility would be good moving forward.

Giving the task to an officeholder would be safer, I believe.

The problem with creating a new office to create a newspaper is that, due to bans on dual officeholding, every person placed in an office is one less person who can hold another office.  Eventually, we will run out of qualified people.

I'm partial to evergreen's amendment on this because I'd rather an elected officer not unilateral effect on game events. The should be the job of GM/other federal cabinet members only.

Assuming activity is not an issue, creating a newspaper to do these things would be okay with me if the powers of such a person are limited and very specific (budgetary issues, cost analyses, etc.). I'm really not a fan of GM powers because it's really the only position in the game with no real life equivalent, and the powers the GM possesses are way too broad and vague for me.

I kind of favor defaulting more or less to RL life for anything that's not in-game.

Any suggestion for amendments?

^ I'll throw that into the pot.

Clause 5: I know we got into this with the A.G. and the wiki a while back, but requiring this to be updated is problematic. Does that become impeachable? If so, then I fear we're looking at another potentially inactive office.

Clause 3: There are usually several trackers running, but 3.3 is okay.

Story creating power: Again, not a fan. I've never seen anything good come from it, and at that it either peters out or else becomes too ridiculous and people don't pay attention.

IMO, just default to real life for stories.

I support this amendment and urge the Assembly to adopt it. Also, ftr, I'd veto the act if it gave the writer storytelling powers.

I urge the Speaker to call a vote on the amendments so we can get this through.

I don't think giving the newspaper story-creating power is a good idea, unless the editor(s?) run it by the GM first.

sorry for not having been on the past few days, everyone

anyways i'm going to assume (unless rep. rgn objects) that his inclusion of my amendment in his own means that he considers it friendly.

as such we will now hold a vote on dempgh's amendment:

representatives have 24 hours to vote.
