Former president Ulysses S. Grant of Illinois manages to win the Republican nomination for president for a third term. Grant chooses Maine Senator James G. Blaine to appeal to the moderate reform wing of the party for vice president. The Democrats nominate New York Governor and the 1876 nominee Samuel J. Tilden, who chooses Ohio Senator Allen G. Thurman as his Nominee for Vice President. The Greenbacks Nominate Iowa Congressman James B. Weaver of Iowa for President. Former Massachusetts Congressman Benjamin Butler is nominated for Vice President. Discuss with maps.
