It would have been cool to see how just Sanders vs. Trump would play out, but still an excellent timeline!

Looking good for Huntsman/Bayh!

Would be really interesting to see what happens if it goes to the House.

Important question: Are there Huntsman loyalist indies running in 100+ house districts?

If so, it could lead to Democrats wiping out many non-Southern Republicans due to the vote-splitting.

Huntman's bid has inspired a following independents to run in key states like New Hampshire for example.

Hmm, this is probably what a House vote by state would look like in the congress elected after a tied election nationally:

In other words, Sanders has absolutely no chance in the House unless Huntsman-affiliated indies throw 26 states to the Democrats outright or Huntsman finishes 3rd in the PV and Huntsman-indies hold the balance of power in enough states to block Trump.  If Sanders finishes 3rd, all of the Democratic controlled states would presumably vote for Huntsman, save for a couple New England states.  So the minimum win for Huntsman in an R-controlled House would probably be this, although I can't see Trump maintaining this much R support:

Hmmm... not looking too good for Sanders right now.  Trump is doing surprisingly well as it looks like Huntsman didn't split the Southern white vote enough.  The Plains look worse for Trump, though.

YES!!!

I'd always love a Bernie win, but that seems doubtful right now. North Dakota, however, is almost as good as him winning the whole election in my book. I have a feeling that this one is going to the House.

The title keeps it vague - this could be the perfect storm to bring a 3rd party to the White House, but it could also be the only conceivable way Trump becomes President - a three-way split that sends it to the House. Time will tell!

9. Closing In

1:01 am

"Bernie Sanders is the winner in Colorado. Colorado stays Democratic, once again." -- Wolf Blitzer

"Another state added to the Sanders' column tonight. This is now where we start to head into a grey area, Wolf. If Bernie Sanders were to potentially carry all the remaining states he would have 263 electoral votes, seven short needed to win the Presidency. Now, if Jon Huntsman carried all the remaining states, he'd be at 366, more than enough needed to become President. The problem is it is doubtful that either candidate will sweep all the states, which means Sanders could pick up California or New York, which would reduce a significant chunk of electoral delegate and would deliver this election, potentially to the House of Representatives." -- Anderson Cooper

Also, I don't see Georgia's popular vote result when it was called. Could you add that, please?

10. Done

2:33 am

"History is made tonight. Jon Huntsman, having captured the state of New York by a narrow margin, is our projected winner in Florida and thus is the winner of the Presidency. Jon Huntsman, the Former Ambassador and Republican Governor of Utah will be the 45th President of the United Stats." -- Wolf Blitzer

Florida: Projected
√ Jon Huntsman: 33.87%
Bernie Sanders: 33.27%
Donald Trump: 31.86%

Bernie Sanders Concedes to Huntsman

Despite hopes he would contests Jon Huntsman's 34.17% to 33.99% victory in New York, Bernie Sanders accepted the outcome of the Presidential race, conceding from his home state of Vermont. Sanders, a self-described Independent socialist became a Democrat for the sake of the election, but performed far better than any socialist candidate. He thanked his supporters and remarked on the odds of his improbable campaign, but pledge the work would go on.

Sanders finished a strong second, far ahead of Donald Trump, the Republican candidate. Sanders won 160 electoral votes and an astonishing 32 percent of the vote in a three man race.

The victory of Jon Huntsman was seen as a plus for the GOP. Having survived the Trump debacle, Huntsman a moderate Republican could work with the divided Congress. The Democrats narrowly retook the House, while Republican barley hung onto the Senate. The influx of independent candidates in house races was credited to Huntsman's presence of the ticket. Donald Trump, the GOP candidate concede early in the morning from his headquarters in New York. He finished a dismal third, which did in part reflect badly on the Republican Party's brand, but his candidacy was largely whitewashed by the party, as the outcome resulted in a "Republican" retaking the White House.

Trump Reluctantly Concedes
