I was just reading about Gore's defeat in the 2000 Presidential Election and like many other people I wonder if there was a chance if things played out differently, will Gore had a better chance of winning the presidency.

The beginning of the 21st century proved to be a promising time for America and the world. Despite a lot of different set backs-Columbine, Lewinsky scandal, etc.-I feel Gore would have a better shot if his running mate was a woman, instead of man.

Why I say this is because of the pre-9/11 optimistic age for many Americans. Imagine Gore encouraging voters to vote for him because of economy and a promising future, where everyone, regardless of their backgrounds, can make something of themselves. A female running mate will seal because it set's up a new future for America, which we should all agree multiple Americans would like.

Now I know multiple users will disagree with me on this but I want to here you out. I was too young to remember anything and all I know is how everything felt optimistic and promising, which I believe could have been very useful if used rightly.

Jeanne Shaheen was on his short list. I guess if she manages to deliver NH without costing any of the razor thin Gore states. New Mexico was particularly close, and Oregon, Wisconsin, and Iowa were also fractions of a percent margin. I doubt she'd help in Florida, but that's the other possibility.

No.  The only thing that would have helped is if Gore wasn't Gore.

Jeanne Saheen would've delivered New Hampshire and given Gore the win, regardless of Florida.

This is correct.

Gore could've won the election easily, regardless of a running-mate (Shaheen, Lieberman, Kerry, Graham, Edwards... take your damn pick) if he had utterly diffrent campaign. Even with his piss-poor campaign, he still came within the inches, so imagine his results without said bagage.

All true, but Shaheen would still have been a better pick than Lieberman and could have delivered the crucial votes in New Hampshire. So I think the answer is Yes.

Not sure. What effect did Lieberman have in Pennsylvania?

Gore blew it by losing three (at that time) democrat leaning states he had no business losing. Arkansas, West Virginia, and Louisiana. Tennessee was trending toward the R's, but Bill Clinton won it twice and it was Gore's home state. Missouri was a swing state then as well.

Gore's problem was the Second Amendment.

Jeanne Shaheen was preoccupied with her Gov duties; she didn't want to be VP. It was Bob Graham or nothing and asking for a statewide recount in OT.

Any running mate would have been better than Joe Lieberman.
