I wanted to create a poll about this.

I think that there should be a like and dislike button this forum.

No, the like/dislike system is abused at AAD whenever the daily lynch mob occurs.

No to both. This is a discussion board, not a f**king facebook.

1 and 3.
It would probably help slow this forums descent into irrelevance.

Maybe an "agree" button. Otherwise no, but no big deal as to likes. No dislikes.

Yes, there should be a like button– it cuts down on empty quoting and empty quoting is a cancer.

I think the dislike button works well in the AAD environment but I can see how it might not be the best idea here.

I would be in favor of a "like" button, but on a political forum the particular trouble with a "dislike" button is that I imagine a lot of people will use it to mean "disagree". This would not be a particularly beneficial thing.

A like button would certainly cut down on empty quoting, but then again you could just impose a character limit. Although I suspect we'd merely get chains of posts that say "This." instead.

There should not.

(I do agree with the comments about empty quoting being lame, but as numb as they are, the like/dislike feature requires even less effort or thought.)

I think there should be a like button, or some equivalent, no dislike button, don't display an overall number of likes, and I also think people severely over-estimate the potential effect it will have on overall posting quality.

Neither one, because I really don't understand what's so hard about adding a comment to something you agree with or disagree with. And this is not social media where you have followers who LIKE! whatever you type.

One aspect of this forum is that there is a cadre of posters who are here as much or solely for the social aspects, and not the core maps and election data aspects. No problem there, it happens on plenty of sites as people who are initially drawn to the subject stay for the community. Like and dislike make sense on a primarily social forum.

Atlas is primarily not a social forum, but there are large sections that are. Maybe social network technology (eg like/dislike) should apply to those boards that are primarily social like Forum Community, but not to political data boards like elections.

How about a "kudos" button, if "like" is too irretrievably associated with Facebook?
