American Dad is one of my favorite shows on television and I think it's much better than Family Guy (although Family Guy is good too).

What do you guys think?

American Dad is alright, but Family Guy is awful.

They are both fine shows, I don't even hate the Cleveland Show.  AD and FG can get a bit preachy at times, especially AD, but the jokes are generally often enough and good enough to keep any of them as background noise.

but none of them are as good as South Park <elbows BRTD in the ribs>

Vastly superior to Family Guy.

American Dad consistently made me laugh in every episode, which Famiky Guy started doing way less since like 2011. But the move to TBS ruined it. I guess the showrunner leaving resulted in lower quality, I barely laughed at all the entire season.

Better than Family Guy, but still not a show I'd watch.

I liked it very much for the first few years.  The first episode of American Dad that I ever watched was in Spanish. I was in Alajuela, Costa Rica, sitting in my hotel room reading the newspaper and the cover story of the TV weekly section was about a new show on Fox called American Dad.  Here's an excerpt from a story in the Teleguía section of La Nación from July 31, 2005 that I posted some time ago:

La serie pinta la vida familiar de Stan Smith, un agente de la Agencia Central de Inteligencia de EU, conservador e intolerante, amigo íntimo de las armas y paranoico en grado superlativo.

After reading that I really wanted to watch the show.   I had seen Simpsons in Mexico and King of the Hill in Guatemala, and found that some of the humor didn't really translate well, but I have to admit that American Dad was very funny in Spanish.  I think the Costaricans could definitely relate to it, given their political history.  Later, when I got back home to--let's see... I was living in Columbus, Mississippi at the time--when I got back to Columbus I made sure to watch it every week.

I suppose my tastes have changed.  I usually watch Ancient Aliens during that timeslot, although they're starting to run out of material as well.

Voted FF.

Decent, but hardly anything groundbreaking.

It's kind of like Family Guy, but with jokes.

A scammer, a murdered, a rapist, a coward, an immature egoist... but despite thatthat's why he's great.

Fantastic. It's much better than FG because it's jokes aren't just random pop culture references.

I consider it quite inferior to Family Guy. It has its moments and some great episodes but the lack of cut away gags hurts.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I've watched it on and off since it debuted. I used to like it the same as Family Guy but over the last few years I've stopped watching, unless nothing else is on.

It's more of a normal sitcom than FG and I think that's why I like it less. It can still be funny though.

Roger was never a favorite character of mine. I like Steve, Bulloch and Barry more than him.

Better than Family Guy, at least. MacFarlane is awful, which is why I usually like Stan better before he "learns a lesson".
