Vienna had 74.8% turnout on Sunday.

I wondered what turnout was like in other big European cities in recent national/local elections.

Please help me set up this list.

Thx.

60.2% Berlin (2011 state election)
62.7% Munich (2013 state election)
56.5% Hamburg (2015 state election)
59.3% Cologne (2012 state election)

Comparing state, local and general elections could end in a less than useful comparison.

Federal election 2013

Berlin 72.5%
Hamburg 70.3%
Munich 71.2%
Cologne 72.5%
[Federal average 71.5%]

Quite interesting that "poor" Berlin has higher turnout than "rich" Munich and Hamburg. Inside the cities on the other hand there is a strong correlation between turnout and low unemployment, high formal education and high per-capita income (there is almost no correlation at all at city-level between turnout and income per household).

Antonio sent me a PM:

Sure! Smiley For Italy, you'll find all the election data you need by navigating this website. For example, turnout in Rome in 2013 was 77.35%. It was much, much lower in every other kind of election though.

The French Interior Ministry is notoriously terrible at reporting election results, but you can check out this. The results are pretty accurate as far as I've seen. Apparently, turnout in Paris was 80.15% in 2012 in the first round, and 83.02% in the second. Again though, the Presidential election is unique in the high turnout it generates.

Paris, municipal election 2014 (national turnout) :
1st round : 56.26 % (63.55 %)
Runoff : 58.03 % (62.13 %)

Paris, European election 2014 (national turnout) :
52.21 % (42.43 %)

Paris, presidential election 2012 (national turnout) :
1st round : 80.15 % (79.48 %)
Runoff : 83.02 % (80.35 %)

Paris, in its habit of being the opposite of the rest of the country, is a good pupil in nation-wide elections, and a bad pupil in municipal elections.
