The funny thing is a year ago, which of these statements would have sounded more ridiculous?

A: Tea Partier elected to Congress through hijacking Democratic spot on the ballot

B: Donald Trump elected President of the United States

Now, if he won, I presume he would serve as a Republican?

Says he'd caucus with Republicans/immediately switch parties if he were elected.

Well, there is some sort of precedent: in 1978 in NY-21 (South Bronx) Democratic state Senator Robert Garcia was denied a Democratic congressional nomination  for special congressional election by local party leaders. As a result - he ran as Republican and Liberal candidate (Democratic candidate had Conservative nomination as well) - and won. Naturally - he switched back Democratic a week after election and served almost 12 years as Democrat.. So, something like this happened.

Sure, why not?  Let the Republicans waste money on an extended inter-party feud.

Why not just run as an Indie if he's just going to switch parties?  Running as a D is sketchy and manipulative of people that actually think the D column means something.

He says he received enough write-in Dem primary votes to be the nominee, plus Pennsylvania's ballot access requirements are very restrictive if I remember correctly.

https://www.rollcall.com/news/politics/shuster-republican-challenger-might-get-democratic-nomination

Halvorson currently leading for the nomination; "With votes still to count, he had 1,080 and Sedlock had 1,036. The candidate with the most votes will be offered the nomination. "

Depends on how many of his primary voters are turned off by his tactics.

I'd be interested to see what kind of ads he runs.

If its anything like his primary radio ads, Shuster is an immoral prick and does nothing decent for the country, Halvorson will join the Freedm Caucus and have a term limit/ is a decent person etc
