Wow, awesome!  It'll be interesting to see how it'll look in 2016.  You'd think a swing toward the Republicans without Obama on the ticket (after all, it mostly voted Republican before 2008).

I have a thread with several different township-level maps for the area here:

As far as precinct-level maps, I am looking at putting together some more of these because I think they are far more interesting than township-level maps. 2008 President and possibly 08-12 swing may be next on the list here in the coming weeks.

I have several college friends from Lake Forest ... they are not happy about Illinois' standing as a blue state, and their parents almost can't believe the change in the state's politics compared to the '70s and '80s.  Orange County is an apt comparison, haha.

Well if every person I have ever met from Lake Forest is any indication, then doing the opposite of what they want is usually the smart move. Not the brightest crayons in the box.

plus there's a Lake Forest in orange county which to my knowledge has always voted republican

The suburbs were much more conservative in the 50s-80s. Rapid suburbanization brought to the area a new upper middle class that had come from little and wanted to protect what was theirs. As the suburbs have matured and this isn't really a phenomena anymore and hasn't been since the 90s when the burbs began a clear trend to the left.

Additionally, the Chicago burbs have diversified somewhat
