Agreed, most of them. Some of them obviously actually are, but a lot are probably just looking for some lefty cred. Obviously the number of people with maroon states/countries next to them is far greater than those who are technically socialists (and obviously this isn't the Republican definition of "socialist" as "anyone to the left of me economically"--Obama is not in any way a socialist, people).

Most of them would be in the US, the country the avatars are based around. Note that there is no Christian Democrat avatar, or Liberal avatar, the avatars are for parties, not ideology. And truthfully European Socialist parties often aren't even to the left of the Democrats. Exhibit A: PASOK. Exhibit B: Francois Hollande.

You don't dictate the rules of avatar consistency, snowflake.  If they were, we wouldn't have Canadian provincial avatars (unless we had sub-national territories for every other country as well).  And they would have been better drawn, relative to the others.

As far as the avatars, I think many of the liberals that changed their avis to socialist were just doing it because it is new. I still expect many of them to revert back to bright red over time.

As for me, I'm sticking with the Dem avatar because 1) I don't identify as a socialist and 2) I'm ready for Dem victories in 2016.

There are maybe five American posters on this forum that I'd describe as socialists, and that includes democratic socialists like Madeline and revolutionary socialists like myself. A lot of people wearing the avatar are boiler-plate liberal Democrats, yes. But that's what happens in a country where 'socialism' is alternatively defined as 'anything the government does' (literally a libertarian definition of what socialism is) and/or 'SWEDEN' (which is not socialist and never has been socialist, because social democracy is not socialism)
