Yeah, I think we could do this for Governor, although I think with activity being an issue I would probably not support term limits for the Assembly. But for Gov., yeah, this looks good.

Just trying to understand the two full terms. It means for example if someone becomes Governor in a special election, that person can still run and hold Governor's office for the duration of the two full terms of the general election.

The thing I've been trying to figure out is how to handle specials. What I'd like to do is find a way to limit people who were appointed early in a term and won a special election (like myself) from being governor for 11 months.

In real life, I would say that this is a good idea, but with activity being so low, I don't think limits are the best way to go now.

Obviously I disagree. Here are my reasons:

1. It's easy for someone to get entrenched as Governor. In fact, per Wiki, no Governor has lost reelection since dissolution. Many don't even face major party opposition.

2. People want to hold office in the Northeast. Almost all of our recent Senate races have contested, our last two open-seat gubernatorial elections were highly contested, and two of our recent special Assembly elections were also contested.

3. This will give opportunities to advance for newer players. Open elections are generally more competitive than ones with incumbents (e.g. July gov special, July Senate special, February senate vs Feb and June gov).

I think the proposed text would allow anyone who serves a partial term to be elected twice thereafter, regardless of when the partial term starts.

tbh i don't really care whether the limit is 8 months or 11 months or whatever. if you want to introduce another amendment i'll extend debate another 36 hours though

and also is my amendment friendly?

I think Evergreen's amendment is a good way to start.

FYI, I fully support term limits for the office of Northeast Governor.

We do not need a Governor for life just because a particular Governor may have the support of the largest party or largest coalition of parties in the region.

I am very pleased to see that this bill has such tremendous support in the Assembly.
