I'm curious about which potential candidates people think are most likely to run for president in 2008?  Not *win*--forget about their chances for winning the nomination--I'm just talking about the most likely candidates to run.  For both parties, can you rank the top 5 most likely candidates to run?

For the GOP, I'm thinking that Frist is most likely--followed by Allen.  Beyond that, I have no idea.  For the Democrats, I don't know.  Maybe Hillary is the most likely to run just because she's the early frontrunner.  I don't really have that good of a feel for who's most likely to run.  That's why I'm asking the question.  :-p

Anyway, feel free to offer as much explanation as you want, including (if you really want to take it this far) percentage probabilities that the person in question will run.

At this point, your guess is as good as mine.  Although, it appears as if Hillary and Bayh are preparing on the Democratic side, and Bill Frist is preparing on the Republican side.

I know of one candidate who has personally said he will run who is not on TCash101's list.  I'm not sure if anyone else know's this information at the moment, as it was a close friend of mine who asked the question.

If I had to guess Id add Warner and Clark to the Dem's and Romney to the GOP.  Other than that your list is about right.

Senator Dole is more likely to run than Allen or Santorum?

If Santorum wins re-election he'll be in the running. Pawlenty should definitely be up there. McCain will definitely be up there. Sanford and Allen will. The GOP bench is very wide open.

I doubt Dole runs because she would be up for reelection that year and I don't see her pulling an Edwards.

Not to sound ugly, but we already have 3 threads on this very topic on the first page of the forum.  Can we try to minimize the duplicate/triplicate threads and consolidate all of our thoughts on one?

Thanks.

What are the other threads are you refering to?  Do you mean the "2008 Republican presidential candidates" and "Do any of the following non-wingnuts have a chance at the GOP nomination?" threads?  If so, I'd just like to point out that this thread was here before either of those were.  Also, the latter is really a different subject.  Whether a candidate has a shot at winning is a different question from whether or not they're going to run.

Jeez, my views on this topic haven't changed since the day before yesterday when I posted in the other topic.  And it probably won't have changed in time for next week's topic either, I'd expect.
