This is something I was wondering with the William F. Buckley VS Gore Vidal documentary. If a TV station wanted interesting debates between someone to the left and someone to the right, who would be the best choices?

The one rule is that it shouldn't be a debate between a partisan and a moderate. These should be people who have strong and consistent political beliefs. The conservative should've backed McCain over Obama in 2008 (unless the views changed recently) and the liberal should've backed Kerry over W.

Paul Krugman vs. George Will?
Rachel Maddow vs. Glenn Beck?
Jon Stewart vs. Rich Lowry?
Al Sharpton vs. Rush Limbaugh?

The pair-up that came to mind for me was Ta Nehisi Coates VS Rich Lowry.

Coates seems to be the guy liberals listen to the most. Lowry is the editor of the National Review, and comfortable giving the conservative position on television and radio.

Buckley and Vidal were both intelligent quick-witted people. Therein lies the challenge.

So basically if Rush Limbaugh and Melissa Harris-Perry were actually smart and articulate.

And one of them wasn't morbidly obese and the other didn't have a lisp.

Paul Krugman vs. Stephen Moore actually happened and is pretty decent.
