Assuming Lee survives any potential Republican primary.

Lee might lose against a serious primary challenger.  (As long as the nomination wasn't decided at a convention.)

Huntsman could have won the GOP primary if he wanted it.

I am super-focused on Utah Democratic politics, and even I haven't heard of this guy. A marriage counselor is interesting though.

Oh, definitely. I was just getting worried that the Utah Democrats wouldn't have a candidate at all.

Having a bad one (like the one they might have) is almost as awful as not having one at all.

The worst they can do is waste a couple hundred thousand dollars, and honestly, if it potentially helps downballot candidates, that's good enough for me. No candidate signals that the party has given up, and that's incredibly demoralizing.

Do sacrificial lamb candidates really deserve entire threads?

Well, if they're a Senate candidate (and likely the only Democratic Senate candidate for a state), why not? We've certainly got more frivolous threads (cue all the Sanders, Warren, Biden, etc threads in the other electoral forums) elsewhere.

Also, the local news has officially done a biography article on Swinton, so at least he's gotten a bit of newsworthy attention.

Of note is that Swinton is a Mormon (a given in Utah), and from Sandy (most Democratic candidates are from Salt Lake City or in a liberal suburb close by). Plus, I'm assuming this guy has some money, so he could sink his own money in.
