Again, this is simply about the supporters, not the candidates.

Sanders. His fanbase includes a lot of conservatives who only want him to win the primary because they hate Hillary.

Republican should have been a choice, because that is a pretty rabid fanbase.

Sanders by a mile. His fans keep posting cheesy memes on Facebook with grandiose pronouncements that mostly amount to the government controlling every aspect of life and informing me I am not permitted to conscientiously object.

I'm not sure I've met someone in real life who will admit to being a Clinton supporter at the moment.

I'm just interested in the Democratic race here. We could do a separate poll for Republicans, though I'm not sure how many of the candidates have much of a fan base. Trump and Paul of course, and I guess Bush has dudeabides.

Sanders supporters: Honestly, listening to a hard-core Sanders supporter gives me the same feeling as listening to a Tea Partier; "Once he's nominated, people will see how perfect his ideas are and he'll win in a landslide because he speaks truth to power!"

I probably have more disagreements on issues with Bernie Sanders supporters because they are slightly to the left of Hillary Clinton supporters. But at least they are supporting a candidate who is consistent and doesn't need polls to tell him what to think.

Clinton supporters are in complete denial about how bad their candidate is. They believe she is an experienced diplomat. She was not an effective U.S. Senator and her time in the U.S. Senate was marked by her votes against tax cuts and funding our troops. Her time as Secretary of State was marked by pure incompetence and failures - be it the Russian reset, the relationship with Israel, or the situation in Benghazi. You then have this email situation and the conflicts of interest with the Clinton foundation.

When Bernie Sanders talks, he talks from the heart. Secretary Clinton is scripted and doesn't answer questions. Her policies are basically a continuation of Obama's failed policies, and that is a problem.

As much as I like Sanders, Sanders supporters. They're probably the same folks who stayed home in 2014 because the Democrats running weren't "good enough" for them. Few things bug me more than slacktivists, which a lot of Sanders supporters are.

I only see two types of liberals on Facebook:  generic Democrats who post Occupy Democrats memes and the Sanders 2016 types.   Not many young people seem to be actively backing Clinton.

Both Sanders supporters and Clinton supporters are probably equally obnoxious but Sanders supporters are obnoxious for a good cause. Clinton supporters are obnoxious for another 8 years of neo-liberal blah. How can that make anyone so passionate? Clearly they are worse.

Since when is Obama a neo-liberal? Or Clinton? Supporting the TPP doesn't make someone a neo-liberal any more than supporting Social Security makes them a socialist.

If Clinton and Obama aren't neo-liberals, who do you think is?

Also, how are you a social democrat?

The trouble with Sanders is he's hardly the most radical person ever. Unlike say, his right-wing equivalent Ron "Happening" Paul (who genuinely had notions radically different from his party). pretty much everything his mouth wouldn't be too out of place in the DNC national platform. He is merely a sexed up Clinton wearing antiestablishment clothes. With that in mind, his rabid fandom acting

- as if Sanders is "the only politician speaking the truth", (I can name at least politicians people saying the same stuff) and throwing everyone else under the bus. I actually find this really creepy, if I'm honest.

- act as if presidency is equivalent to the DPRK's Supreme Leader. No there's no point in primarying incumbents; or even building a more progressive coalition at the state or local level; no just elect our magic man to congress and all our problems will poof away.

- talking with lame, dorky catchphrases like "feel the bern"

- flooding all criticism (or even non-glowing coverage of the man) with hysterical accusations of being part of teh anti-sanders conspiriceh.

Yeah, Clinton is infinitely worse than Sanders, but I'd take her fanbase over the cult any day.

I'm going to address all these one by one in a calm, reasoned manner. I'm sure you will just interpret that as frothing Sandersite insanity though.

Others might say similar things but right now none of them are running for president. Hillary might occasionally bemoan wealth inequality but she does it in a much more general way and doesn't actually support any policies that would do anything to address it. So he basically is the only candidate "speaking the truth" right now. Although I agree such phrasing is hokey.

Also, who are we throwing under the bus? Just a couple of crazy BLM activists who Sanders didn't even attack and who half of his supporters made excuses for. I guess also Hillary but we won't really know for sure until if/when she wins the nomination and see where Sanders supporters go.

- act as if presidency is equivalent to the DPRK's Supreme Leader. No there's no point in primarying incumbents; or even building a more progressive coalition at the state or local level; no just elect our magic man to congress and all our problems will poof away.

This is something you are either totally imaging or just making up for the sake of this post. No one has said these things. Maybe you are legitimately concerned because people are talking about Bernie but not about primarying random not-so-liberal Democratic congressmen. Well, that's just the nature of politics. People pay more attention to presidential candidates than they do to Congressmen and City Councilmen. Those passive followers of politics aren't the hardcore Sanders fanatics we're talking about though. Among the actual hardcore Sanders supporters, I imagine most of them would be especially supportive of primarying insufficiently left-wing Democrats and community organizing.

As to the idea that Bernie will solve our problems once he gets presidential powers 1) We aren't even past the primary yet so people haven't even really been discussing that 2) While Sanders won't fix everything, it will be easier to fix things (get left-wing policies implemented) with a president who actually supports implementing left-wing policies than with a president who doesn't. It's a weird argument to say that because Bernie won't have dictatorial power, it isn't worth worrying about if he has power at all.

- talking with lame, dorky catchphrases like "feel the bern"

Okay, this one I totally agree with you on.

- flooding all criticism (or even non-glowing coverage of the man) with hysterical accusations of being part of teh anti-sanders conspiriceh.

The only conspiracy against Sanders is the one to make him appear somehow anti-Black and it's pretty damn obvious. I don't think the BLM protesters were paid by Hillary but the Hillary campaign has certainly been playing up the totally unjustified idea that he is weak on race for months. His stupid plan he came out with after the protesters, which everyone is praising, is just a re-statement of stuff he already believed in the first place! None of the race base criticism of Sanders is based on actual policies, it's all, even by the admission of some of the people making it, just about how he doesn't make the right emphasis/say exactly the right words in exactly the right order that individuals imagine in their head.

It's very clear to anyone who's not a Hillary hack that Sanders has never been "weak with Black people" it's just that Hillary is very strong with Black people. To her credit. It's not that Sanders is undesirable to them, it's mostly that they don't know who he is. Still, Clinton, or at the very least, bored people in the media looking for a story, have distorted that fact to make Sanders look anti-Black. It's totally unfair and totally ridiculous. It's only because the media keeps talking about it that the idea persists. It's like no one would think Obama was born in another country if the media hadn't constantly discussed stupid theories about if he was or not.
