The GOP is really having a hard time finding candidates across a bunch of red state Dem seats.
That's what happens in midterms

Not really. Not de facto, anyway.

Hartzler would have been McCaskill's preferred candidate.

Who has a better chance of defeating eventual GOP opponent in 2018? Jason Kander or incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill?

Tilt R, bordering on Lean R. I just can't see a repeat of something like Akin happening again, not in the current political climate.

Maybe if a Trumpite is nominated she can carry suburban voters and win MO-02...? *barfs*

Maybe if a boring establishment Republican is nominated, the rural turnout is depressed...?

I just don't see a feasible path to victory. McCaskill will have the right political tailwinds in 2018, with 2-term incumbency + Trump  likely a good year for Democrats, but is that enough in Missouri?
It depends on the Republican.

Should be Jason Kander...however, someone like Jason Kander should've been better in 2012 too.

Not underestimating McCaskill yet.

Kander. McCaskill will still win, though.

Kander is done as a Senate candidate. He and McCaskill are equally as bad.

"Josh Hawley: handpicked by the Washington establishment to take away your healthcare" or some other little attack like this might be worthwhile for McCaskill.

We'll see if he actually runs. There were a lot of similar reports about Wagner and Hartzler before they bowed out.

Attorney General for only 6 months, and nothing else on his resume? I fail to see how this is bad news for McCaskill. It's good news IMO.

^ Its not good news at all, but it's not 100% bad either. He did win his election 61-39, outperforming Trump and Greitens, but obviously that doesn't always mean success in a Senate election (see: Josh Mandel).

In a race McCaskill is slightly not favored in atm, I still think Hawley winning 61-39 and not facing any scandals should worry McCaskill.

Any non-Akin/Blunt Republican running should worry McCaskill. This isn't Michigan, and her favorability is underwater.
