I can only imagine the reaction from Republicans if Air Claire wins once again, smashing "rising star" Hawley to pieces in the process, lol.

Kander could no longer win. His high profile criticism of Trump and all Republicans will not be popular. Nationalization of races in Red and blue states hurts the opposite party of the state.

Trump is much less popular than he was when elected. Criticizing an unpopular President is good for electoral chances.

Eric Greitens' scandal might help McCaskill.

Is Josh Hawley the GOP frontrunner? After what happened in Alabama last fall (and in Missouri in 2012), the GOP (and its supporters) had better make darn sure their candidate is squeaky clean, and not prone to gaffes.

One poll shows Hawley up by 4 against McCaskill. That sounds about right in the state that went for Trump by 19 points, but it's really too close to call at this point.

Craig O'Dear, a Kansas City attorney, is seriously exploring an Independent Senate bid. Ugh.

Nobody cares about these obscure independents outside of Atlas.

Looks like McCaskill found her candidate.

The chances are slim with party machinery lined up behind Hawley, but it would be remarkable if the GOP is forced to surrender this seat again due to a horribly gaffe-prone candidate.

Don't kid yourself into thinking McCaskill could do something to help this guy win the primary.

The situation is not even remotely similar - Akin was a sitting congressman with prominent endorsements and a voting record very appealing to the base.

So far all I have seen is an email from McCaskill attempting to fundraise off of this, which is not surprising.

To be fair, Q4 was pretty brutal for the GOP. They were struggling to get anything done and the tax reform wasn't going very well.

Their fundraising numbers should go up for Q1 2018 now that they've done tax reform. But will it be by enough? We'll see.

The number of donors is the most staggering. 100 000 v 1 500? Lucky for Hawley his average donation was about 10 times McCaskill's.

http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/news-columns-blogs/the-buzz/article197603534.html

During a speech to pastors in Kansas City in December, Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley linked the problem of sex trafficking to the sexual revolution of the 1960s.

Hawley, the top Republican prospect to challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill in November, launched a new unit in the attorney general’s office focused on fighting human trafficking a few months into his first year in office.

During a speech at a “Pastors and Pews” event hosted by the Missouri Renewal Project, Hawley tied the issue to the sexual revolution, the cultural shift in the 1960s and 1970s that eliminated the social stigma for premarital sex and contraception that had been commonplace in the United States during previous decades.

“We have a human trafficking crisis in our state and in this city and in our country because people are willing to purchase women, young women, and treat them like commodities. There is a market for it. Why is there? Because our culture has completely lost its way. The sexual revolution has led to exploitation of women on a scale that we would never have imagined, never have imagined,” Hawley told the crowd in audio obtained by The Star this week.

The idea that Hawley's campaign leaked this is bizarre, it makes no sense for them to turn the campaign spotlight onto sexual ethics, giving that
- Hawley is running close to Trump, who is infamously compromised in that area
- Akin lost primarily due to a gaffe in that exact area
- It's not a good look for Hawley to appear to be talking down to a women about social issues like these. (the word mansplaining comes to mind)
- McCaskill has weaponised similar issues to great effect in the past.

Yeah, very little chance Hawley's campaign leaked this. No reason to give McCaskill ammo on one of the strongest issues she has.

Wagner has a voting record and Hawley does not and she can't run as an outsider so I'm not sure her jumping would be all bad.
