Ideologically, can anyone find out where Josh Hawley stands? Younger Republicans like him are generally more conservative, so I hope he adheres to that rule.

He could definitely be a rising star. He is only 37 and is already being urged by the VP and big money to run for senate- that's impressive.

Um, no. According to the polls, younger Republicans are generally more likely to be pro-choice and pro-SSM.

SSM yes, not pro choice.

This is probably true, but I also wonder how many young Missouri Republicans take a stance similar to that of Sen. Rob Portman, given what he said when Obergefell v. Hodges was handed down:

I completely agree with what Sen. Portman said, not only because of the practical political consequence that he mentioned, but more importantly because what the Supreme Court did in Obergefell v. Hodges has nothing at all to do with what the clauses in Section 1 of the 14th Amendment were intended to mean. I would hope that many young Missouri Republicans would agree with Sen. Portman and myself that we wanted same-sex marriage to become legal, but it should not have happened because of judicial decrees that are completely erroneous. It should have happened via legislation (eight U.S. states and recently the country of Germany) or via popular referendums (three U.S. states and the country of Ireland). All of the judicial decrees, starting with the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in 2003, should stink profoundly to all Republicans, both those that are pro-SSM and those opposed to it.

Didn't McCackle used to describe herself as a "conservative"?

Oh yay, another McCaskill thread.

She excites the Democratic and SJW base as well as liberal Atlas posters, she's about as moderate as Elizabeth Warren.

This is really, really dumb. There are political issues other than muh SJWs, and McCaskill and Warren are very far apart on those.

Supposedly she at one point was anti-amnesty. Doubt she still believes that.

She's a bad fit for the state

I believe her voting record speaks for itself, so let's just agree to disagree.
To be fair, Senate leadership in both parties protect their members so much from voting against the party line these days that Senators can only rarely exercise independence on votes, although I can't think of any issue of consequence where McCaskill would not vote as a liberal, even if she had the opportunity to.

She's essentially a moderate who play-acts at being a modern leftist. The Game of Thrones BS was a prime example.

I don't see any contradiction between being liberal and wanting government programs to be well-managed.

I believe her voting record speaks for itself, so let's just agree to disagree. McCaskill is way to the left of her state, but then again MO almost voted for Kander, so who knows. If they keep reelecting her, they have no right to complain anyway. And I'll certainly admit that she represents her party very well.

That has nothing to do with the ridiculous implicit claim that McCaskill and Warren are the same politically. McCaskill is notably to the right of Warren on healthcare, the single biggest issue in Congress right now, and she's also much more of a hawk than Warren is. Those are tangible issues that they do not share the same view on, so no, I'm not gonna agree to disagree.

No, I think she knows her state very well. What she did in 2012 was one of the most politically genius moves in most of our lifetimes. It'll definitely be a tough battle next year, but I wouldn't bet against her. She's not afraid to engage the other side and go into hostile territory. And I would say that she is very likable and personable, qualities you cannot discount, particularly in a state like Missouri. (And before you mention Kander, he far outperformed Hillary, but those qualities can only push you up so far.)

Her fundraising so far looks very encouraging!

She might be able to win this after all!

Regardless of who ends up winning, I think it will take a long time to call... unfortunately.

The GOP is really having a hard time finding candidates across a bunch of red state Dem seats.
