The CNN article on this has a statement from Kasich's campaign that it was only a metaphor and should not be taken literally.

If he really said this, he's a complete idiot, and I've lost all respect for him.

Not only is this petty and childish, it flies in the face of the precious "Federalism" that the Small Gov crowd bring up.  Isn't this a proposal for the Feds to micromanage schools?

Notice that Donald Trump doesn't walk back his statements.

Kasich, if you were king, that is what you would do?

That's it? What a loser. Way to think small.

How about completely severing all funding for education and eliminating the system of accreditation?

Petty, stupid small ball. Trying to be Walker 2.0.

Rubio continues to be the only grownup in the field.

Did you even read the article, or the entire quote?

I'm no Kasich dickrider, but if you look at the video it's clearly a joke.  He starts off by saying "If I was not president but King..." and then is laughing the whole time and the audience is laughing with him.

The more damning part of the quote is him fantasizing about being a king.

The Huntsman comparison is apt in some ways - both candidates seem like something out of outer space when they're on the stage with other Republicans - but it's always been off the mark in others. Frequently hilariously so, e.g. Jon Huntsman looks and dresses like a G.Q. model, John Kasich looks and dresses like my dad.

Wow. Just... wow.

What's next? A pledge to a Constitutional Amendment banning teaching of that controversial "Round Earth" theory?

If this is what he drives the Republicans to, I'm starting to see Trump's appeal.

John Kasich is a far-right Republican of the 1990s which makes him a 'moderate' Republican in the 2010s.

No! A moderate Republican cannot exist! It's impossible!

How dare you question Democratic supporters of the moderate, centrist, very progressive Hillary Clinton! She will be more progressive than Obama, but will be as centrist and thus electable! Why don't you understand? She will bring about radical change and centrist compromise. Only Hillary can do it.

What the hell does this has to do with anything? Nobody mentioned Hillary, the Democrats, or Obama at all. They just simply stated the truth that Kasich being a moderate is incorrect.

Apparently, John Kasich doesn't think he won the debate either.

We have had only two "moderate" Presidents in my lifetime; Dwight Eisenhower and Jimmy Carter.  Eisenhower was beloved; Carter was loathed.

Moderates never make anyone happy.  Carter's shifts toward the right angered liberal Democrats while not really generating any loyalty from more conservative Democrats.  Eisenhower would have to run as a Democrat today; indeed, his children both voted for Kerry and Obama.

Makes me like him more!

There are many great things about Jon Huntsman, and this is one of them. Huntsman also comes off as more cerebral and mild, while Kasich has always been known as a prickly, no-nonsense type.
