It's good to see Dems finally coming around to the libertarian position on some things.

Libertarians love to claim credit. If anything, I'd think the libertarian position would be that parents have the right to choose any sort of therapy or care for their children without big government interfering.

That is quite unfortunate. Was it for political expediency or genuinely held beliefs?

I doubt supporting the mental abuse of children contrary to psychological good practice is a 'genuinely held belief ' so probably the other one.

As opposed to banning it for adults as well presumably.

No credit claiming, hence the phrase "coming around to" and not "finally convinced of".  You guys always had it in you.  libertarians can maybe take a little credit for the weed thing, but not for the gay marriage and this kind of thing, that's all you.  Good job.

It's pretty obvious that homosexuality is NOT 100% genetic.

For instance, if it were 100% genetic like your eye color, you would expect all identical twins to both either be gay or straight. No such thing is observed.

Studies have they found that if one of a set of identical twins is gay there is a ~50% chance the other is gay. With fraternal twins, it's a ~20% chance. So there is a higher chance of being gay if your sibling or twin is gay but it's clearly not the same as the chance of having blue eyes if your identical twin has blue eyes.

Likely there is some genetic influence in your sexuality, but as the left always reminds us, it is largely a "social construct", meaning that the society you are born in influences you.

The fact that these practices are outlawed then is just a sign that society is shifting in a gayer and gayer direction, making the enforcement and promotion of heterosexuality more taboo than it had been.

If sexuality is partly a "social construct" than whether or not your society shames certain sexualities or accepts them will to a degree determine how many people express those sexualities. So we're just moving more and more to the gay side.

In NY the other day I saw a large apartment building flying 4 flags. One flag pole had the American flag below the gay flag. Another had the rainbow flag alone. And the fourth also had the rainbow flag alone.

Our culture is moving very determinedly in the gay direction.

Heterosexuality isn't 100% genetic. What's your point?

Token mention of the fact that it does work sometimes, but not enough to warrant having it around.

Even by its own admission, it doesn't "work". It just teaches you self denial. It doesn't even try to do away with same sex attraction.

You guys don't own the person in question nor has he ever publicly sided with you, so while you retain the right to be annoyed also remember to take a more pragmatic approach to his actions.

Ugh Rauner is a huge conservative who will be destroyed by the Democratic machine.

Lol this doesn't change anything. The deep divisions run along the lines of the budget and bargaining policy, which they have already clashed plenty on

I mean, sometimes bisexuals find an opposite-sex person to marry, so if that counts as "working" then OK.

Yes, but neither do we owe him not to express our disappointment over such a poorly decided vote.

I guess Wheaton College has some real pull there.

I don't think conversion therapy should be illegal for stupid adults, but for children it is indeed abuse.
