Horrible laws. They should not exist. So many people I know get involved with the police simply because they went somewhere too late (11:00 PM where I live) and because they were under the age of 18. It literally takes rights away from minors and gets them involved with the criminal justice system when they (almost always) serve no threat to public safety. Old politicians are apparently okay with curbing the rights of minors, and that's certainly shown not only through this but through the slow but certain taking away of rights of students in public schools. Its certainly a topic I feel passionate about as a 17 year old. Since most of these laws exist at a local level however, it can be easier to affect change.

Sometimes necessary, but generally awful.

Probably the correct answer.  I can't recall it ever being an issue when I was underage, perhaps my hometown didn't have one.  I was pulled over several times late at night and it was never brought up, so I'm guessing not.  My current city (Omaha) doesn't have one either, but some of the suburbs around it do.

Yeah really bad and counterproductive. It's not minors who are generally causing trouble late anyway.

Horrible laws, but I simply do not care enough about the issue. Curfews never seem to be enforced down here.

Useful if security concerns are real concerns.

Hopefully you all live in peaceful enough communities where you have never experienced the need for curfews. In places that are wracked by violence and you do not feel safe at night, having a curfew is indeed an effective security mechanism.

Security is among the most basic concern of a state, so if curfews are necessary to impose that, so be it.

If you're looking at it from the perspective of a teenager in a parking lot drinking beers cause you can't get into a bar you think "FK DA POLICE", of course.

They make sense to an extent for younger children, but once a certain age is reached (say 14, 16, whatever), it's obviously horrible and serves no point at all.

ElectionsGuy, curfews where you're at are not seriously 11pm for any under 18 year old?

Yes, they are actually. It may sound ridiculous, but I live in a gated suburban community. Cops have nothing better to do (there's no actual crime here), so they search for stuff to enforce. My response in the original post may have been a little over the top, but its only because I've seen people actually get fined for this before. There's bigger fish to fry, but this is something that just gets on my nerves as a civil libertarian.
