People outside of this forum are discussing the possibility of Joe Biden running with Elizabeth Warren.

As Michael Tomasky wrote for the Daily Beast...

What are the advantages and disadvantages for Biden and Warren of making that kidn of announcement at this point?

Pros:
-Satisfies the want for a woman on the ticket (making up for Hillary)
-Energizes the base with a liberal icon
-Comes across as overall very genuine and personable
-Creates a full ticket for people to get behind early on

Cons:
-Biden's current approval numbers might just be a sympathy bump
-Combined age of 140
-No regional diversity
-No characteristic appeal to Blacks or Hispanics

Con for Warren: She'll have to get her hands dirty as well. Her position within the party will be damaged if Hillary eventually wins.

Warren's presence on the ticket neutralizes Biden's main appeal as the safe, trustworthy option.

There's an element of McCain/Palin here, albeit far less extreme, in that an "elder statesman" candidate's choice of VP is more important and choosing someone who will lose the center is a terrible idea.

Well, a GOP governor would get to pick an interim senator.

Warren is ideal because she can cut into Clinton's support among women and Sander's support among liberal whites.  In addition, Biden has quite a bit of appeal with African Americans, so the two of them together could make a potent combination.

I'm not convinced that they'd do well in the general election.  But I suppose nearly everything better in the general election than Sanders or Clinton under indictment.

This would be an extremely unusual tactic. Then again, this has been a very unusual primary season on both sides.

Pros...
Gets liberals excited for Biden.
Makes it easier for people who want a woman in the White House to vote for the old white guy.
Makes use of Elizabeth Warren's talents as a party spokesman.
Biden's foreign policy/ Washington expertise with Warren's economic knowledge.
National bids tend to raise the profiles of Senators, so even if the bid is unsuccessful, Warren can return to the Senate as a more prominent voice.

Cons...
It's an old ticket.
It's a white northeastern ticket.
Hillary Clinton allows voters to pick a woman for the #1 spot.
Warren isn't a demonstrably strong candidate. Winning by seven points in MA is not enough to be a natonal figure.
Warren doesn't seem to want to be President. She's probably not eager to be the running mate of a man in his seventies with a history of health problems.

Con; he wouldn't pick Warren; he will pick Warner, Kaine or Castro.

Given the Democratic party's obsession with identity politics, it's unlikely he'll pick a white guy.

In addition to Castro, the party has a solid bench of alternatives with Klobuchar, Gilibrand, Booker, Becerra and more obscure technically qualified choices (Former Charlotte Mayor/ Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, Former Dallas Mayor/ Trade Rep Ron Kirk, Former Congresswoman/ Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, etc.)
