Mr Speaker,
I would like to remind the honourable member that in calling these laws 'human rights abuses' he, unfortunately, hasn't a leg to stand upon. I can think of no formal charter that gives a woman a human right to an abortion, and, in any case, there is none that South America has signed. However, I imagine that the Minister for Social Protection and myself will be, most likely, looking to establish one coherent statute on abortion, as opposed to the patchwork of differing laws that we have now. I look forward to the contributions of the honorable member when that stage is reached.
