Let's base it on polls - Trump (obv), Carson, Fiorina, Bush, Cruz, and I guess Rubio over Walker.

Since I voted who I think would survive and not necessarily who I WANT to continue on: Kasich, Rubio, Bush, Trump, and Fiorina.

Bush, Huckabee, Rubio, Fiorina, Walker, and Paul.

Trump should be disqualified from GOP debates because he's dumb and a distraction.

Christie should be out of the debates because no one supports him.

Kasich should be out of the debates because he makes silly comments

Cruz should be out of the debates because he has no chance at winning.

Jindal should be out of the debates because he isn't honest about who he really is.

Graham shouldn't be in the debates because he has no substance other than wanting to police the world

Santorum shouldn't be in the debates because he's a complete fraud

Perry is boring at this point

Gilmore is not relevant

Pataki should be running as a Democrat with his pro-choice, anti-gun views

The five with a chance of winning: Bush, Trump, Walker, Kasich, and Rubio, plus the next-best-polling candidate, Carson.

Under this criteria Trump is the ONLY candidate left in the field.

That's because they are top 6 in polling, even if you extend beyond national and include early states.  That being said I doubt CNBC will limit to 6 with no kiddie table.  But I would like to see them maybe limit to 8 and factor in early state polling. As for the remaining 9 perhaps a round table discussion with only those polling above 1%

I could see 8 candidate limit, only polls from after the CNN debate allowed, and candidates required to have an average of 1% over all the polls for kiddie table.

To see what a metric which included early state polling might look like, I came up with the following method. Average together the RCP averages for Iowa and New Hampshire. Then average that number with the RCP National average. That gives us the following:

22.9% Trump
9.4% Bush
9.3% Carson
8.2% Walker
7.1% Cruz
6.9% Fiorina
6.3% Rubio
6.0% Kasich
---8 man cutoff---
4.2% Paul
3.7% Huckabee
3.5% Christie
1.2% Perry
1.1% Santorum
0.8% Jindal
0.7% Graham
0.3% Pataki
0.0% Gilmore

22.9% Trump
9.4% Bush
9.3% Carson
8.2% Walker
7.1% Cruz
6.9% Fiorina
6.3% Rubio
6.0% Kasich
---8 man cutoff---
4.2% Paul
3.7% Huckabee
3.5% Christie
1.2% Perry
1.1% Santorum
0.8% Jindal
0.7% Graham
0.3% Pataki
0.0% Gilmore

This seems like a good list. I voted for Paul over Carson because I think that Fiorina might take some of the non-establishment voters away from Carson as she gains momentum.

Let's think about this from a circus perspective, which, let's be honest, this is in all but name.

Trump is the main attraction, of course he should be invited.

Cruz, Carson, and Fiorina were also fan favorites, they should get admitted too.

Bush and Walker were bores, everyone is better off if they stay at home.

Rubio and Kasich both did well at the last debate, and would be rational choices for the last two spots. However, the possibility of a Christie-Paul cagematch round two is too irresistible to give them the final two spots.

well if you are going for entertainment spectacle, then Graham is a much better choice than Christie if you want a showdown with Paul. And Perry should also be brought up from the minors because he yells all his answers and there is always the chance he shows up drunk or armed or both. And while we are at it, bring Herman Cain back from retirement, awwwww shucky ducky!

While Graham might put up a more substantive ruckus with Paul, I don't think it would have quite the fireworks that Christie's attitude brings to the table.

Perry would clearly merit inclusion, both for his willingness to engage in fisticuffs with Trump and his own gaffe potential. It is just difficult to determine which candidate would have to be excluded to allow Perry to participate. Cruz, maybe?

I still say Graham over Christie, he is clearly funnier and better with the zingers. Christie is just a bully, but you already got Trump for that.

If you want the biggest circus, this is how it should go:

Trump
Huckabee
Christie
Paul
Graham
Perry

Paul would be out. He's a joke and his father should be sad.

Trump, Kasich, Fiorina, Pataki, Gilmore, and Graham.  That would bring about the most lively debate, no?
