I imagine that most of those born after 1991 or 92 haven't.

Literally once at a train station because my cell phone was dead.

Yes, and the difficulty when not having enough change to complete the call.

I was born in 88 and didn't get my first cell phone until I turned sixteen so Iused one quite a bit when I was younger. I'm glad that I got to catch the tail end of the world before people were expected to be constantly pluggedin

I'm in my ripe old 30s (by Atlas standards), so yes, of course. Wink

Yes, and quite a bit for someone my age actually. My town in Vermont didn't even have cell phone coverage until like 2007.

Yes, but only with a calling card. Back then they were credit cards usable only to make calls from pay phones rather than the cards you can get today for prepaid cellular service. Which led AT&T to shortly after it was forced to divest itself of the Baby Bells to offer a card whose principal selling point was that it would be both a general purpose credit card and a calling card you could use with pay phones.

I think I got to use one once when I was five (back in 1999) when I asked my parents what it was and they let me call my uncle with it. I treated it like it belonged in a museum.

Yep. I was born in 1993, and I think I've used them twice, once when I was pretty young and the other time in the mid 2000s before I had a cell phone. The second time, I was pretty surprised it was still functioning, since that was well after they had started to fall out of fashion.

Yes. I didn't have a cell phone in high school and needed to call for a ride when I was a freshman. The school had payphones.

i used to walk home from school in 1st grade with a friend and we'd stop at the payphone along the way to ask my mom if she was making pudding, and if she was we'd both go to my house for lunch

I have, but very few times on my own. I was with my mom many times when I was younger and she used payphones (and sometimes I would say "Hi" or whatever, depending on the caller). A lot of times I can recall were in airports, which weren't the most enjoyable experiences overall. I know for certain that I haven't used one since 2001, when my mom got her first cell phone.
