Does he have a better chance against Bush than Dukakis?

Honestly?

I think only Tsongas or Boren would have been able to beat Bush in 1988. Keep in mind that Reagan's popularity kept many Democrats home. Bentsen would have done better in the South, although maybe at the cost of most of the North.

A rematch of their 1970 Texas Senate campaign?  Oooh!

Considering that Democrats did much better against Bush with Clinton, I'd say that Bentsen would have had a better chance.
