http://reason.com/blog/2015/08/26/when-the-entire-democratic-party-was-likOne interesting facet of politics over the past twenty years has been the shifting of the Overton Window well, well to the left on cultural issues. I knew Clinton's "triangulation" strategy was designed so he seemed far more conservative than contemporary Democrats, but the difference between Democratic rhetoric on immigration, crime, culture, and drugs today vs. the party back then is pretty breathtaking.
Interestingly, Reason magazine makes the comparison of Bill Clinton to Donald Trump. I think this is largely just libertarian hackery (since Republicans at the time [and largely today as well) basically agreed on most of the 1996 DNC platform points listed by Welch. Nonetheless, I think it's a safe bet that the cohort of Bill Clinton 1996/Mitt Romney 2012 voters is more likely to support Donald Trump than the cohort of Dole '96/Romney '12 voters.
