You know, situations where you voted for candidate X but in hindsight you would have voted for candidate Y or just really didn't like candidate X.

No one I really regret - back then, I simply didn't have the knowledge I have now, which is perfectly normal. However, if I would have VVD in the Dutch parliamentary elections in 2012 (and I was tempted to do so), I would definitely regret it at this point.

Daddy Bush in 92 and Dole in 96 (both, like DavidB, out of ignorance), otherwise, no, I vote for the best person so this never comes up for me.  I almost went for Obama in 08 because of my dislike of Bob Barr, I would have regretted that.  I'm 0-6 in Presidential elections and I'm perfectly happy with that.

Sorry, but what does this mean? I genuinely don't know.

Voting for the loser in all six.

Cuomo in 2010, I knew he was bad then but I was afraid of Palladino and I had know idea of how truly awful he was going to be to the point that I really was almost rooting for Howie Hawkins to be a spoiler last year. It was really stupid in heinseight though that I was worried about Palladino as a spoiler, I should have looked at the polls and realized that Cuomo was up by a massive lead.

Mike Rounds in 2006, followed by the other Republicans I voted for that year.

He's probably asking why you regret that vote, not why you voted for him in the first place.

None that I can think of so far. I regret writing in a candidate in my congressional primary -was  a surprisingly close race, not that my vote would have made a difference in the end.

I don't particularly regret any of my votes, although I stand corrected in voting for McKenna in the 2012 gubernatorial election. I don't think he would have made a particularly bad governor, but Inslee has definitely won me over, should he run for reelection.

Sam Brownback in 2014
Richard Mourdock in 2012

In hindsight, I would have abstained in the IN Senate race and voted Paul Davis for Kansas Governor.

Allen in 2006 and 2012, since Webb and Kaine both ended up being pretty decent.

I would say Bush in 2004 but all the other options were awful too.

I've never voted, but since my dad is a Republican and I didn't develop my own political views until 2014, I probably would've voted for McCain and Romney...

Similar thing, except I'm a bit ahead of you. As someone without political views of my own, I would've voted for Huckabee in 2008. Yeah...

None, as I haven't voted before. But if I was able to vote in 2012, I would've voted for Romney, and that would've been very regretful...

Just a question why did you even vote for him? He didn't want to pass the anti gay bill before the election? And Davis would have never had the majority in the KS chambers to pass a far-left agenda.

The only one that I truly regret was voting Dee Smith for Utah AG in 2012. Dude was a Drug Warrior type (as in, big fan of the War on Drugs), and since the Democrats have no chance for the UT AG office anyway, I'd rather vote Libertarian (as I did in the special election in 2014).

I can't say that I regret any real life votes in particular(at least not yet) , but there are plenty of hypothetical cases where I would have voted for one candidate at the time and another with hindsight, or where I would have swallowed hard to vote for a candidate I despised (like Jesse Helms or Ted Cruz) over the alternative.

Although I was underage at the time, I (regrettably) was caught up in CLEGGMANIA!!!! like much of my demographic.

There are a few international candidates I've backed which turned out to be duds - Flanby, David Cunliffe, etc.

Greg Abbott for Governor. I usually vote for Democrats in the state elections, but Wendy Davis was a horrible candidate on multiple levels and I was very turned off to her campaign by the time I voted. Still, Abbott is a sociopath. I wish I had voted third party.

2014 was my first time voting, and I don't regret anything yet.
