Rather than basing these on the candidates' policies, I decided to go with the presidents I felt best matched their personalities.

Hillary Clinton: James Madison
(Skilled politician; struggles to connect with the voters on a personal level)

Bernie Sanders: John Adams
(Shaky relations with his party's establishment; stubborn insistence in following his own moral compass regardless of the political consequences)   

Marco Rubio: John F. Kennedy
(Youthful rising star in his party; careful not to offend the base, sometimes at the expense of taking a strong stand on the issues [Civil Rights for Kennedy; immigration for Rubio])

Ted Cruz: Lyndon B. Johnson
(A political strategist at heart; arrogant)

Rand Paul: John Q. Adams
(Has a set of firmly held beliefs and sticks to them; no lack of fire; sidelined by an opponent [Jackson for JQA; Trump for RP] who is much more willing to run on his personality)

Donald Trump: Andrew Jackson
(Brash populist appeal; casts himself as the candidate of the "common man"; avoids talking about the issues whenever possible)
