From what I've read, if Iran is actually in compliance with the deal, just doing peaceful nuclear work, but Israel doesn't like it and decides to attack, the US will defend them.

Looking into this some more, it looks like Rubio did make a similar allegation over a month ago.  But there are various takedowns of this suggestion on the web.  E.g.:

In any case, the way Trump phrased it, it sounds like the agreement would compel the US to go to war with Israel in the case of an Israeli attack, which is even more silly.

This is not all that outlandish. There's lots of questions about the deal, and this is one of them.

Clearly, most Presidents would see that and agree that it's an absurd proposition to go to war with a nuclear ally to defend a country that has been mutual enemy for decades. But Obama isn't most Presidents.

I think there's a good chance that If Israel went for the airstrikes option in the coming months, Obama would be prepared to shoot down the Israeli planes. Where it went from there would have as much to do with the people surrounding him as it would with him.

I assume that is an accurate statement, and of course, Israel would never attack under such circumstances. The rub comes 10 years hence.

Speaking as a Hillary supporter, I think this is 1 of the many weaknesses of the deal. Trump is a little out of context, but not completely.
