Yes Northeast

Yes Northeast is a non-partisan group supporting independence for the Northeast and are urging people to vote Yes in the potential referendum on independence.

The Northeast remains one of the most active regions in the Republic of Atlasia, and that activity could be used to create a vibrant independent country - which maintains close links to the Republic. A Yes vote could spark the change that the game desperately needs.

We plan that, if the Northeast votes in favour of independence, the Northeast would become independent on 1st December 2015 - allowing for a period of negotiations between Atlasia and the Northeast.

Why vote Yes?
Independence will create a better game for people on both sides of the border, by making more roles in the game more important and creating an actual interaction between countries in the same universe. An independent Northeast would still co-operate with Atlasia, but in a different way.

Independence will, also, allow the Northeast region to control all taxation generated in the Northeast. Currently the Regional Government and Assembly controls only 28% of taxation generated in the Northeast - independence will allow us total control over this. This will allow us the power to spend money in a way that would benefit our region.

A Yes vote is a vote of confidence in the Northeast's ability to control its own affairs.

Can the Northeast afford to be independent?
Yes. The Northeast currently has a budget surplus (of around $10bn) and the Republic of Atlasia has a budget surplus (of around $15bn). This means that the Northeast will still be in surplus as an independent country – while covering the additional costs of being an independent country.

The Northeast has 18.5% of the population of Atlasia within its borders – so our surplus increase by $2.5bn, when including revenue and spending that would previously be controlled by Nyman. This puts our projected surplus, assuming there’s no change in spending and taxation, to around $13bn enabling us to increase spending or lower taxes.

These figures include a population share of Atlasian debt repayments and our based on the most recent budgets of both Atlasia and the Northeast.

Who will form the first independent Northeast Senate/Government?
The first election to the independent Northeast Senate (currently Assembly) will take place in the same month as independence, December. The elections will continue to work in the same way as before. The Assembly that was elected in October 2015 will become the Senate on the date of independence.

The first election for President will take place in February 2016. The Governor at the time of independence will assume the role of President until that election.

Northeast: The Independent Step - White Paper Launch
Ahead of the referendum vote, Yes Northeast have launched the white paper on independence.

The white paper lays out the Northeast National Party plan for currency, international relations, et al.

The full white paper is visible here: http://1drv.ms/1Ml8oo6

Key Points:
  • Independent Northeastern Currency pegged 1:1 with the Atlasian Dollar.
  • No requirement for changes in taxation.
  • Attempt to create a fully free at the point of use healthcare system.
  • Referendum on NATO membership.
  • No opposition to allowing Atlasian citizens to freely settle in the Northeast following independence.
  • A plan to have a new publicly funded, public service broadcaster.

Serious kudos for putting this much effort into it
Thanks. Smiley

I feel that if you're going to try and change something - then you should try and give everyone as much information about what your trying to do as possible. I hope this helps.

A question Clyde what happens if a member of the assembly who was elected in the October elections doesn't want to become a member of the 'senate'. Also what's happens to those who want to leave the Northeast and want to move to Atlasia but they can't move until after independence???
For question one, an assembly member has the right to resign under any circumstance - so they would be able to resign if they don't want to move to the independent 'senate'. However, given that the October election would take place following a vote for independence - the assembly members would know that they would become the independent 'senate' following independence, until the next election - so I feel it's unlikely to be a major issue.

For question two, between a Yes vote and 1st December (the date I've set out for independence), the Northeast will still be part of Atlasia - so unless the Atlasian Government changes any registration rules, people will be free to move as present.

Don't inflate his head, it's a slap-dash, no-effort copy-and-paste job. Loathsome secessionists like him, particularly taking after the repulsive Scottish mould and their idiotic, pandering, self-serving, narrow-minded, populist provincialists., should neither get nor deserve anything in the way of respect.
I did use some of the Scottish Gov guide, reworded, but not all of it is from that. It still took several hours to complete.

Yes Northeast Press Release
Clyde1998 - 2nd October 2015
The Northeast Assembly have repealed the referendum bill previously passed in favour of a constitutional amendment - this was done on the advise of the Chief Judicial Officer for the region. The referendum bill would have required two votes on independence, rather than one.

A Yes vote will lead to a Northeast-wide Constitutional Convention on how an independent Northeast would be set up. This enables the general public to vote on who chooses the set up of an independent Northeast - and allows the eleven elected delegates to set the foundations of the new country.

The Northeast, now, will vote on independence at the same times as the Presidential, Northeast Senate, Northeast Gubernatorial and Northeast Assembly elections.

I would like to confirm that every member of the Northeast National Party is considered part of the Yes Northeast group and we encourage others to join the campaign group, if they support Northeastern independence.

Concession Speech
Friends, the campaign is over. While, the polls are yet to close - we know that there's going to be a majority for the 'No' campaign.

Can I, firstly, say thank you to everyone who backed independence and thank you to everyone who turned out to vote. We've seen a much higher turnout that the last Northeast elections.

The Northeast has voted not to become independent, at this stage. I respect the people's verdict - and hope everyone can accept the democratic verdict of the Northeast electorate.

We must bring the Northeast together - in order to progress as a region. I hope 'Yes' voters will respect the decision of 'No' voters to vote the way they did.

Now we wait to see what will follow this result - the Constitutional Convention will hopefully give more powers to the regions, allowing the Northeast to grow and become a more important part of Atlasia as a result.

The people of the Northeast know that change is around the corner - and should the regions fail to receive substantial more exclusive powers, then their could be serve consequences: people who voted 'No', but want more powers may be pushed towards independence in the future.

I've spoken to people who said they couldn't bring themselves to vote 'Yes' this time, but could easily vote 'Yes' next time - whenever that may be.

The future of Atlasia will be determined by the next few months.

I will make a statement later to reflect on the full and final results - but at the end of the day: voters, if I hear you correctly, what you're saying is not right now.
