Is there a specific issue causing her major drop in both primary and general election polls?

In my opinion I think the general public know the general election is more than a year away, therefore they're losing interests in most of the candidates. Next year, this time we'll see how much more popular Hillary Clinton has become.

She's an awful politician, very stiff and unlikable who already ran once and lost. Basically, she's the Democrat's Mitt Romney.

So pretty much options one and three.

Pretty much all of the above. But negative media coverage is very important as well.

More scandals
Less excitement
She keeps making the same mistakes
She can't go back and erase her past history

She's been around the block too many times, people want something new (08 hurts but move on)

I think people just remember that they don't like her. I really find it hard to believe that any Democrat could be excited about the prospect of campaigning for her.

Emailgate is the biggest story of her campaign and it's ongoing and shows no signs of going away anytime soon. She's losing the media battle, a bad PR operation is her biggest problem if anything.

There's also the authenticity thing. She's a well known quantity, she can't redefine herself no matter how hard she tries to sound like Elizabeth Warren. The more she tries, the more she looks like a pandering opportunist.

Overall, Clinton's campaign is currently more of a trainwreck than her last one.

I love her, but she is the quintessential member of the politician class. That fact alone touches on basically everything on the list: dumb scandals, unlikeability, stiffness, failure to connect, failure to excite... it's all a part of it. And what we've generally seen this cycle is, to the extreme, America is tired of wet noodle politicians.

Fortunately the GOP nominee is more likely than not to be a complete loon, so Hillary will win by default, but there's no question that the appetite for Hillary is not as strong as it looked like it might be when people were asked about her in 2012.

She's very much an insider with little political skills. She's one of those politicos who just turns away potential supporters the moment she starts campaigning. I think the email scandal has hit her hard too, as well as Bernie Sanders doing a lot better than many people expected him to.

All bar 4 IMO.

Plus this feels more of an outsider year politically.

None of those answers are accurate. She's only going down in popularity because the media portrays her as a dishonest, unethical person in order to create some controversy (this is what the media is good at). If she were treated fairly by the media, she would be polling even better than she was back before the whole "scandal"-chain started.

f she were treated fairly by the media, she would be polling even better than she was back before the whole "scandal"-chain started. worse because that would mean they'd be covering her terrible positions on the issues.

MisSkeptic, judging by your commentary, you are either seriously deluded or you are a jokemeister. I think you need to stop drinking the Kool-aid. Also stop pretending to be an Independent,  and change your avatar color to red for Democrat, you are not kidding anybody. Now as to your statement,  it's patently not substantiated by reality. Hillary's campaign is on life support and the only thing sustaining her viability with Democrats, her fundraising apparatus, the lack of a credible alternative. She's no Bill Clinton.Tomorrow if Joe Biden got in, you'd see a meltdown In her numbers. Problem with her campaign,  everyone is in a echo chamber and they don't see her problems for what they are. There is no cure to rescue her. The longer Democrats & Clintonista's don't wake up to this fact, the better for this Republican. Our party can hammer Clinton off the field. No problemo😉

This has never been true. (And even if it were true six months ago, it isn't today.)

I thought it was a Mountain in Alaska?

Anyway, the cause is she was overhyped, like the Apple Watch. She's simply not a very good candidate and people had forgotten since she 9out of sight for so long.

I'd say it's the fact she's run a near non-existent campaign, playing it way too safe by limiting the frequency and size of events, limiting media access to her and by not announcing much policy in comparison to her rival Sanders. She's allowed negative stories about her to dominate, all the while losing voter support to the more engaging/exciting Sanders.

Exactly.  Trump is the nuttiest candidate, and he's about to pull out a lead in polling averages (if he hasn't already).
