Freedom Trailer. Sufficient lack of Blaxicans for a German film. That gypsy woman is something too Wink

It's an American movie, not a German one - as you can clearly see from the trailer.

It's just the German version of the trailer you posted.

Well, it's clearly not an Austrian movie. There's a spooky scene in an attic, but nothing in a basement.

Why is Hollywood trying to commercialize Christmas like this?  Can't we just focus on the true meaning of Christmas: the terrorization of misbehaving children via grotesque mythological creatures?

Will you watch this movie...and post a review on its cultural accuracy?

Maybe, but I can already tell from the trailer that it's not culturally accurate:

Krampus does not come during the Christmas Days to punish naughty children, but on or before/after the days of St. Nicholas Day (Dec. 6). The movie is set around Christmas, which is wrong - but commercially (for an American movie) understandable ...

Also, if you want to see the real horror - just come to Austria during late November/early December and watch the actual Krampus (and not the commercialized Hollywood-constructed thing):

Michael Daugherty's first film (Trick 'r Treat) was great.  Judging by the trailer, this will be too.

Do you expect "Krampus" to break all box office records in Austria?  Will Syrian refugees be sent to the movie to inform them of what they've gotten themselves into?

The movie's at 48% on Metacritic and 65% on Rotten Tomatoes.  Could be worse.  We'll have to wait and see how it does at the box office.  If the movie does well, this could be a major milestone in how Austria is perceived around the world.  Biggest turning point for the country since Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Here are the crowd reports on IMDb:

$6 million in North America for Krampus's opening day, which is good enough for first place:

Embrace the Krampus, or go hide in your basement.

Projected to finish @ 16 million, second behind Hunger Games.  Bet Schwartzennegger is kicking himself for not taking the lead role, cause it's obviously going to be a franchise.  Tender should jump on the Krampus tourist train that's obviously going to follow and make a buck.

Not bad I guess.

I wish they didn't mix up Krampus with Christmas, because it has nothing to do with it.

Krampus is the evil companion of St. Nicholas, who visits children today @ St. Nicholas Day to hand them over chocolate/nuts/tangerines.

Too bad Hollywood decided to insert Christmas into this story, which does not make sense culturally. And clowns ... WTF ?

Anyway, Mr. Morden: The answers to your questions are No & No.

So it sounds like you watched the movie in an Austrian cinema?  Was there any way to gauge how the other viewers responded?  Did people laugh at certain parts because of the historical/cultural inaccuracies?

I have not seen the movie yet in cinema. I probably wait until I can download it somewhere.

I'd love a Quentin Tarantino movie though, called "Krampus Unchained" feat. Christoph Waltz, Arnold Schwarzenegger and a few others ... Wink

Kate McKinnon (in character, playing Angela Merkel) mentioned Krampus on tonight's episode of Saturday Night Live.
