Let's say Iran balks on inspections and starts working on a bomb. If America goes to war with Iran, how does Putin respond to an attack on one of Russia's few allies?

This. Putin is one of the most cunning world leaders today. He only goes as far as he can without causing permanent damage and risking his power. This is as far as he'd go.

Yes, it's more likely he will creep around the margins, chumming the waters and sticking his nose in it. Anybody who thinks Putin will go to a direct war with the U.S. willingly is talking out their arse.

Invade the Caucasus, of course. Might as well. The US is distracted and can't claim moral superiority if they're in an active war across the world from their territory.

Yeah, I guess if that happens it is open season a Georgia and the Ukraine.

After the Russians can't just keep letting the Americans pick off their allies and not respond.
