If Paul does drop out, that would guarantee Fiorina in the next big debate, right?

It might also lead to Graham dropping out. Though he might want to stay for one more debate, to just tap dance on the grave of Paul's 2016 presidential ambitions.

Not necessarily. Fiorina is still in 12th (behind Perry) in the CNN average.

Rumblings about the party talking about a rule requiring Rand Paul gives RPK $250,000 by September 18 or the party reverts to a primary.

Not surprising, but I wanted to see Paul gone anyway.

I mean there's still the drama of seeing if Paul can scrounge up $250K over the next few weeks.

He's already given them the money...

He apparently has it sequestered off in some account. RPK doesn't have access to it atm.

They've decided to approve the caucuses (vote was 111-36), but it's contingent on Paul transferring $250,000 to the party by September 18.  If that doesn't happen, then the caucuses are cancelled and they'll go back to the primary:

The caucuses will be on March 5, the Saturday after Super Tuesday.

*bump*

The deadline for Paul to put up the $250,000 for this is a week from today.  I haven't seen any reporting on whether he's already done so or not.  If he doesn't, then this all collapses, and Paul is forced to choose between the presidential and Senate race.

The deadline is actually two days after next week's debate.  Maybe Paul is actually waiting to see if he has a decent debate performance, and if he doesn't, then he pulls the plug on the presidential race?

I mean, the way things are going, if the subsequent debate invitations are based on polling, it's not clear that Paul will continue to qualify for future debates anyway.  Next week may be his last shot.

It would do Rand Paul better if he drops out with his head held high rather then sinking with the rest of the GOP candidates. There's always future presidential elections.
