We know TNF will defend Stalinism. He already said he would like to see Republicans and Libertarians in gulags.
An option that is slowly starting to appeal to me.

Then you hate freedom of speech and hate the idea of democracy too.

Bernie's self appellation as a "socialist" is hyperbolic and inaccurate, but then if he gets flack for it, it's kind of his own fault.

Rand Paul is turning out to be just another Republican hack.  Nothing special.  Perhaps he thinks that this is the ticket to the White House someday.

Yeah, every other Republican in the country thinks the mass incarceration rate in this country is ridiculous.

Finally, someone says this. Too bad it had to be Rand Paul instead of a serious candidate.

Come on, Superman. You know better than this.

For the same way Libertarians must defend racists or Ron's newsletters, socialists must defend this imo

Defend what?

So the media should treat Bernie Sanders like he had neo-soviets editing and circulating his newsletters?

Rand...why?...just...no...WHY?!?!?!?!?...Rand...no...just...........[gently sobs]...

(Sigh)

This is silly. He should know better than that. Or maybe he doesn't--it's not like most politicians would do great at eye surgery. And he's still a really good Senator! Why does he have to be crap at campaigning for President? It's utter desperation mode know. He's just throwing hail marys--and every single one is an interception.

And I must say that when people on here say that Rand needs to defend right-wingers like Hitler and Pinochet, it doesn't make anything any better. Constitutionalist-libertarian-conservative-conservatarianism (or whatever his ideology is called) is very, very, very far from fascism--just how democratic socialism is far different from hardline communism. Orthodox libertarianism, at least as I view it, is pretty much the opposite of fascism. They're both considered "right-wing" because political nerds like you and me have a compulsion to label everything "left-wing" or "right-wing."

People should defend their own records and positions (which, by the way, Rand scores quite highly on) instead of silly distractions based on ultimately meaningless terminology.

It may surprise people, but Communists and Social Democrats do not get along well -- about like conservatives and fascists.

So does Rand Paul have to defend free market fascists like Pinochet?
Since "free market fascist" is a contradiction, no.

nah

I just don't think Rand Paul is that smart. Certainly not as smart as Trump, probably equivalent to other GOPers.

So if Libertarian should have to defend something their preferred candidate actually did democratic socialists should have to defend something someone with a different ideology entirely did 70 odd years ago?

Exactly. Libertarians who don't support Ron Paul obviously don't have to explain the newsletters.

He's a social democrat -- not a socialist.

He hasn't called for nationalizing industries.
