The article notes that debates are not Walker's strength. His performance in August was consistent with that analysis. It may be that next week's debate is his last chance to make a mark and turn around his campaign. Given his past record from the article, that will be a challenge for him.

With Walker, there was always the question of how well he would do on a national stage. And we got the answer.

If he has any political strengths, it's in a one on one race. Although the alternative is that he's lucked into being a candidate in favorable circumstances. He lost a 2006 primary, but the candidate lost the general in a bad year for Republicans. He was well-positioned to be the candidate for Governor in a good year for the party. He was recalled, but that ended up being an election with a Republican electorate, and he was reelected once again in a very Republican year.
