So, they are releasing a new Star Wars comic series that tells the story of the immediate aftermath of the fall of the empire after Return of The Jedi and the events following up to The Force Awakens. It's called Star Wars: Shattered Empire and it sounds REALLY amazing. Here's the summary:

That summary sounds a lot like the expanded universe they just erased from the canon.

Really?

I'm confused because there is also a novel released written by Chuck Wendig called Aftermath that is set in the same time as these comics. It introduces the first gay character in the SW universe, i've been meaning to go pick that up too.

The reason they erased the expanded universe was to avoid having to go thru it and pick out which parts of it wouldn't conflict with the new films. That said, that there would still be a considerable portion of the Empire remaining after the Battle of Endor is just plain common sense.

I got the first issue variant cover today:

It's a really great read, and there is a promo poster inside for Chewie's own comic coming out in October!
