It's happened. Bishop has turned on Abbott. Turnbull has resigned from the front-bench and asked for a ballot.

How likely are the chances of Abbott getting toppled?

This is the one.  Scott Morrison has reportedly declined to contest which almost certainly means Turnbull has the numbers with Bishop's backing.

Jeff Kennet has been putting out some pretty hilarious tweets.

Abbott to speak in a few minutes.  The ABC is saying there are rumors that Turnbull has support in the "low fifties" which is just over the mark.

Wyatt Roy has declared he's behind Turnbull.

Not at all surprising given he helped with the spill attempt in February.

Bishop went to Abbott an hour before Question Time today and told him he had lost her confidence and much of the ministry's; Turnbull of course went just after QT.

Recent commentary was saying how this was a good move by Bishop to show her independence from Turnbull.

For someone with virtually no experience in Australian Politics, why do leaders keep toppling each other and then switching roles and doing it again

It's bonkers. I don't really get it either. Sadly, the Rudd knifing in 2010 made things like this possible.

Just saw a report that Abbott has asked Hockey to step aside.  Not confirmed, of course.

Abbott's people have denied this.

Seems crazy that the leader of a party, and the Prime Minister can get couped in a simple vote
