Inglorious Bastards, The Cain Mutiny, The Great Escape, Enemy At The Gates, Battle of Britan, Das Boot, (if they count) Band of Brothers and The Pacific would top the list.

The German series Generation War was also pretty good though I've read that it's been criticized for historical inaccuracy.

I found it to be a confusing film, with poor acting (especially the kids) and the whole deus-ex-machina like scene towards the ending.

I think I watched earlier this year or late last year (I just remember it was cold that night lolz), and when the film ended I thought it was a waste of 2 hours.

I think I watched earlier this year or late last year (I just remember it was cold that night lolz), and when the film ended I thought it was a waste of 2 hours.

I can't really speak for the acting, as I watched it dubbed (as I do most movies, unless I really care about seeing the original version). The child's voice definitely had an eerie feel to it, but I assumed it was done on purpose, as a clue that this kid has been through something horrible. As for the other actors, they sounded fine to me.

The movie definitely has some surreal elements to it, but to me, it was just enough to highlight how big this mere footnote in WW2 history actually is (and it also helps distinguish itself from the gazilion war movies that take so much pride in how hyper-realistic they are). At its heart, the plot is very straightforward, I really don't see what's confusing about it. I was actually amazed at how seemingly confusing plot elements eventually came together to tell a simple but powerful story.

Yeah, I've got to admit the ending was a bit over the top and reminding of a fairy tale. But the fact is, we needed this, after the merciless punch in the gut that the rest of the movie had been. I'm a strong believer in Don Bluth's idea that you can have the darkest, most depressing events take place in your story, as long as it has a happy ending. Without that ending, I think I would have liked the movie less, because it just would have left me empty.

Downfall. Easily the most realistic and accurate portrayal of Hitler in cinema to date.

The Thin Red Line. Most war films are terrible though.

Band of Brothers and The Pacific, with an honorable mention to Letters From Iwo Jima.

Longest Day, Cross of Iron, and Ballad of a Soldier are all underappreciated films.

It's not a movie, but has anyone else here seen the World War II: When Lions Roared miniseries? I first saw in my 10th grade US History class and I really loved it. It focuses on the relationships between the leaders of the Big Three, with John Lithgow as FDR. If you have any interest in WWII, I'd strongly recommend watching it.

Band of Brothers, if that counts. A bridge too far is a classic, one of the best

Downfall. Easily the most realistic and accurate portrayal of Hitler in cinema to date.

Also, Inglorious Basterds and the TV show Danger 5 for comedies.
