I'll have more to say after Clyde's advocacy, but obviously we'd want to have our fund in dollars, not pounds.

iirc we have a 32-hour workweek and six weeks of paid leave. that would leave the standard workyear at 1472 hours.

Yeah, increasing assistance for childcare is a good idea, but a reasonable dollar figure I would need to see.

Sorry, I meant $200m. £ and $ are right next to each other on a UK keyboard. Smiley

I think it's important that parent are able to have their child in care, without worrying about the costs that may come through this. Situations can occur where one of the children's parents leave work to look after the child, because they can't afford childcare.

I hope this bill will help give support to parents and enable the parents to be able to work - increasing the number of workers, helping the tax income.

As always, I'm open to changing funding levels and hours provided.

This is one of those cases where it'd really help to have a GM.

I agree that childcare is very important, and I think there a lot of potential benefits if we provide it to those who can't afford under normal circumstances. I'm curious to know if there's a federal program though, considering this seems in Atlasia's liberal-left mainstream.

The Federal Government tabled something: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=212015.0

However, this bill goes much further than that one for parents with children aged between two and four. Another bill for older children may be something to look at though.

clyde, do you want to raise the allowance, or do you have another way of addressing the shortfall?

iirc we have a 32-hour workweek and six weeks of paid leave. that would leave the standard workyear at 1472 hours.

I forgot I had the hours in both clauses. That amendment is friendly.

Just curious, where did the $200m figure come from? I can't tell if that's too little or too much. On care for children over than 4, that seems like something that can solved by expanded afterschool programs and more organizations for community youth, which is something worth being explored.

looking into it, i think the bill as proposed would end up costing in the $3b-$5b range. we should also think about having the income limits pegged to poverty level, so we don't constantly have to amend the bill for inflation.

do you guys think we should spend the money or lower the limits?

I'd rather lower the limits. I have a lot of sympathy for providing expanded childcare, but one region shouldn't shoulder the entire burden of this.
