Both rich guy hobbies, one we want to ban, the other we want tax dollars to support it.

The real "trolling" is that of the golf courses, which are massive wastes of land and water.  Convert them into something useful: forests, botanical gardens, public housing, something, anything.  One aspect of Obama's presidency I find least tasteful is his constant indulgence in this elitist pastime.

Um, not all the people who play golf are wealthy. Besides, Golf courses are useful - they provide a place to play a fine sport, and are beautiful in their own right.

I know aesthetic taste is subjective but really?

A well kept golf course is much easier in the eye than some unruly forest Tongue .

Yes, Golf is more enjoyable than much of what is considered to be 'art'.

We should outlaw all sports and introduce "Competitive Election Map Making" as the national pastime.

I don't like golf either, but let's not get carried away.  We should only ban 55% of golf games.

Not against the idea, but there are thousands of innocuous things I'd ban first.

I doubt anyone are entirely serious in this thread, but did you read the GAM manifesto and my first post?

You could make a case for at least taxing it heavily as a problematic activity.

You'll fit in nicely with your new peers.

Given the sort of people who attend opera, yes, yes I do.

Eh, I'd go to the mat for fine arts funding (including opera, though it's not my favorite genre) and I assume I count as on the "left".  I've attended a few operas in my day.

And, yeah, it's pretty nonsensical to compare opera to golf.  Both of them are stereotypically blue-blooded activities, but only one of them is an ecological disaster, which is the real issue here.  Not that I'd ban golf, I have no particular problem with it here on the East Coast, but the idea that it's okay to build acres of thirsty turfgrass in the desert for that purpose (and, of course, that's where so many American golf courses are) is ludicrous beyond comprehension.
