Hmmm, A18 and BRTD voted for the same person.

I'm going to have to go lie down now.

eh, Goldwater is one of the very few Republicans BRTD likes.  Think it's in part by the quote "Every good Christian should line up to kick Jerry Falwell's ass"

Bob Dole.  He's one of the most decent men to seek the Presidency, and it's a shame he didn't win.

Eek...all the Goldwater worshippers congregating once more...
Of these I  voted Hughes, but write-in Nelson Rockefeller.

Bob Dole.  Of all of these men he was the most prepared to be President.  I know a lot of you love him, but frankly Barry G wasn't altogether right in the head.

I disagree. He opposed the Civil Rights Act, wanted to dismantle the New Deal, supported balanced budgets, and was way ahead of his time on Social Security! All clear indications of a sane person.

Umm .... of those 4 the only one I agree with is balanced budgets.  And while I may strongly disagree with Goldwater's positions on these issues they aren't why I think he had a screw loose.  It was his foolish belief that we could use nuclear weapons and that the Soviets and Chinese would sit by quietly while we did so.

Wakie, that's the kind of lying bullsh**t spouted by the LBJ campaign. Goldwater never seriously advocated preemptive nuclear warfare.

Charles Evan Hughes, probabaly the only guy in history who could justly call himself a "Progressive Conservative." Smiley

So you deny he said "Let's lob one into the men's room at the Kremlin."?

Or are you denying that he advocated the use of "tactical" nuclear weapons in Vietnam?

The first quote was a joke, as he said many times. The second was taken out of context- he merely said that all options should be looked into, which is hardly a radical position.

Hughes was a great man; it's too bad that America chose Wilson over him. Teddy Roosevelt was also a "progressive conservative", BTW- he was basically pro-business while demanding reform.

That would've won the war and caused less deaths to our servicemen. Not electing Goldwater was the first and one of the worst missteps on Vietnam.
