Does he win? Maps? Does he get re-elected? Maps? When does the public finally dump the Democratic Party? 1960?

Eisenhower(D)-KS 439 EV (votes for 1950s states)
Nixon(R)-CA 192 EV

Nixon runs as an ametuer, but gets the Republican nomination.  At this point the Republicans realise that Eisenhower will most likely win, so they have no problem with putting up someone who is likely to lose and won't hurt their party.  He wins re-election, but the GOP takes the congress in 1958 and takes back the white house in 1960 landslide with Goldwater.  Goldwater's second running mate Ronald Reagan is elected in office in 1968.

That might have major repercussions to the present day...Eisenhower wins, two terms, that's not in question...
How about the whole civil rights thing, though? And what direction will the Republican party take? And who will they run in 1952 (not Nixon. Obviously.)

Taft makes it competitive (unlike RL 1952), but it's still a convincing victory for Ike.

Whether the Republicans would have a chance in '56 (who would they nominate?) is another question entirely.

Ike would have defeated anyone regardless of which party he was in or who he ran against.  What would have been more interesting is who he would have selected as his VP.  Stevenson I guess since Ike more or less thought VP's were chosen by the party (which is how he landed Nixon).

This means that Stevenson would have likely received the Dem Nom in 1960.  But who gets the Repub?  Nixon may not have achieved the same noteriety.

If Ike endorses Stevenson, he likely wins in 1960 (w/ JFK as his VP ... after all he offered him the runningmate spot in 1956 in RT).  Unlike JFK, Stevenson would have been "in the loop" regarding Eisenhower's Cuba plans and could have supported them properly.

Roll out 1963 and Lee Harvey shoots murders Stevenson as "payback" for Cuba.  JFK becomes President and is elected in 1964 (ala LBJ landslide).

Kennedy is likely to lose in 1968 though I don't know to whom as Nixon is gone as a prominent figure.  No Nixon, no Watergate.  The tone of politics going forward is very different.

The other question is ... how does the GOP handle being out of the White House for 36 years?

The same Lee Harvey Oswald thing wasn't a historical necessity, and certainly wouldn't have happened under a different President.

The Republicans would have won in 1960...if not, I don't think they'd last until 1968.  (Imagine the effect of a Goldwateresque landslide on a party that hadn't won since 1928...it'd be like 1852 was to the Whigs...)

By 1960, whoever the GOP throws up will probably win.

What if Eisenhower picks Stevenson as his VP and Nixon picks MacArthur? Do you think that'd have any effect?

What if Eisenhower picks Marshall as his running mate, and PATTON picks MacArthur?

Read my TL, please. And comment on it, that keeps me going!
