This oil witch-hunt is going to be an opportunity for the warmongers to tar their opposition.

Do you or do you not accept that fraud on this scale is wrong?

What's so lovely about this thing is that Galloway's responces have been said in a way that indicate that he did it Grin

No, it isn't 'wrong'.  And besides, if the orginal policy - blockading Iraq - was a foolish and destructive one, getting the oil out by fraud was a fight for freedom.

Why on earth are you claiming that sordid acts of fraud have anything to do with fighting for "freedom"?

Things get better and better; Galloway had claimed he had asked to be seen by the committee last year (who have no records of such a request)... and they've challenged to him to turn up in Washington and answer their questions.
He's not got much choice now, and has agreed.

Should be fun Cheesy

Yes, and deservedly so! It's high time people saw Galloway for what he is

8 days earlier might have been useful.

Too right, it would have been. Are there any grounds under which Galloway could be charged in relation to his role in the Oil for Food affair?

True enough but it's too late to do anything about that now... other than hope things get worse for the dishonourable member for Bethnal Green & Bow and making sure not to set foot in a Brick Lane curry house.

Well lets face it he's gonna be held in widespread contempt in the House and deservedly so!

Dave

I'm not sure about this, but it might actually be possible to get him expelled from the House over this.
Pete probably knows.

Expelled Wink from the House would be a helluva start. Personally, I'd prefer to see him incarcerated in the Tower Smiley

"A spokesman for committee chairman Senator Norm Coleman, inviting Mr Galloway to the hearing, rebutted that allegation.

"Contrary to his assertions, at no time did Mr Galloway contact the permanent subcommittee on investigations by any means, including but not limited to telephone, fax, e-mail, letter, Morse code or carrier pigeon," Mr Coleman's office said in a statement. "

The precedents for expelling people from the House are not too numerous - the only reasons in the modern era have been for convictions in the Courts of Law on fraud charges. If they could get something in a UK court, that would probably be sufficient grounds to expel. Even if he's done nothing technically illegal, it might still be gotten on contempt of the House of Commons if he's ever said anything to the contrary to what he's actually done in the House, and also whether he's made a false declaration in this regards on the Members Register of Interests.

I'm not even really sure who has jurisdiction to investigate these claims on behalf of Parliament, probably Privileges and Standards Committee. CPS might also get involved with any criminal investigation, though the political garbage they'll have to trawl through to be able to investigate won't be fun for them.
