Why did you use Merkel in Germany but Mattarella in Italy? This makes no sense.

Anyway, obviously Obama.

Matteo Renzi is the real source of power in Italy - the other guy is in a ceremonial role.

Of those listed Obama, Lofven and the misidentified Renzi are the best. They are all flawed, but relatively decent.

If I expanded it, I'd say Tabare Vazquez of Uruguay, Luis Solis of Costa Rica, Rafael Correa of Ecuador, Evo Morales of Bolivia. Most Asian leaders are terrible or bland moderates.

This thread should be somewhere other than U.S. General Discussion.

Swedan? Really? it's SwedEN, bro.

My Top 5:
1. Harper
2. Cameron
3. Turnbull
4. Merkel
5. Rasmussen, I guess?

Benjamin Netanyahu would be my actual #1 one and Matteo Renzi would be my actual #3.

Lofven or Renzi seem pretty decent.

Of course, if they were citizens of my country they would be such different people that they would not be them, if you catch my drift.

What drugs are the people who're voting for Löfvén taking? I mean, I can understand the appeal of the Swedish Social Democratic Party, but I cannot understand why anyone would prefer its current leader when they have a plethora of other choices. Who are these members? Pro-austerity left-wingers that like moderate heroes? That sounds like an oxymoron on this site.

David Cameron is doing surprisingly well, second to Obama.

He is well known in the US and a sane and fairly competent right winger.

Being well-known is a big factor. Sauli Niinistö and Lars Lřkke Rasmussen are on zero. They are both competent and fairly successful. LLR has some personal moral deficiencies, but objectively none of them should be on zero.

LLR is competent? Don't most Danes think he's a turd?

I like him because his is one of the only western governments to criticise and stop selling arms to the Sauds...

He is considered the ultimate machine room politician. He has been a mayor, a county mayor, Minister of the Interior and Minister of Finance, so been all the way from bottom to top in the political system in places where you learn how the system works. He knows every detail about how Danish the economy and public sector works - people listening to his talks on these things at smaller venues are generally very impressed. This is also why he is one of the few Danish pols the corporate top actually respects. He is also a very skilled negotiator and dealmaker. So he is clearly more competent than most politicians - he is just not a media person and his personal moral is a bit iffy - without being directly corrupt.

Well, my thought was that I wanted a lefty choice (so no out and out right-wingers), but not a corrupt one, and not an authoritarian one. So Rousseff is out for corruption, Xi Jinpeng is out for leading an authoritarian government, and I didn't want to vote for Obama as that'd be boring. Hollande was my third choice, but he's boring as well. And I wasn't sure on the politics of a few others. So Lofven was my choice, with Renzi (or at least the spot where he should be) a runner-up.

I wasn't aware that Lofven was pro austerity though, that's a point less in his favor.

The Swedish Social Democrats have been very pro-austerity since the 90's. They've been incredibly loyal to the North European line in the Greece question, and the reason they've distended themselves from the Left Party is because the Left doesn't want to accept the strict spending limits that the right and Social Democrats in Sweden has agreed to.

I like him because his is one of the only western governments to criticise and stop selling arms to the Sauds...

Actually it's pretty well known that Löfvén wanted to continue selling weapons to them, and he was only forced into letting that go after the Greens and Wallström forced him into it with all the clout they had. So if that's the reason, well...
