As I've stated before, the so-called "liberal media" has been unfairly portraying Hillary in a negative way. There making such a huge deal about the emailgate scandal (even though they shouldn't be IMO). Hillary has been drastically dropping in the polls as a result. She's also not very likeable and she's not charismatic (unlike Bill). She's like the Democratic version of Mitt Romney.

If the "liberal media" continues unfairly attacking Clinton, then the Democrats need a back-up candidate who isn't a self-proclaimed socialist (I know that Sander's isn't actually a socialist, but he claims to be, which would severely hurt him in an election).

People in John Kerry's political sphere have claimed that he might run for POTUS if Clinton's campaign implodes.

Salon (and others) have also suggested Al Gore.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

I've also suggested Tom Steyer on another thread. Steyer is a billionaire hedge-fund manager whose a loyal Democrat. He's a huge enviromentalist and has provided financial-backing for many Democratic candidates.

His net worth is around $2 billion IIRC.

He spoke at the DNC back in 2012. His speech was very inspiring and interesting. He's really human-ly (unlike Mitt Romney). Based on interviews and speeches, he seems like someone who'd be able to connect to the average Joe on an emotional level.

He's also wealthy enough to self-finance a primary campaign.

He's also a Washington-outsider (which would really help in a battle against Hillary).

What do you guys think?

Feel free to comment on my Steyer suggestion, and I also strongly encourage you guys to come up with other suggestions.

EDIT: CrabCake had this to say about my Steyer suggestion:

Hint: people who oppose "Washington insiders" probably aren't going to jump over themselves to endorse a Left Coast liberal hedge-fund manager.

My response: Donald Trump is an East Coast billionaire real estate mogul whose leading all the other GOP candidates. One of his main reasons he's leading is because he has no political experience. Despite being a billionaire, Trump has still been the "anti-establishment" because he's so human-ly. He doesn't come off as a robotic, out-of-touch wealthy guy (unlike Mitt Romney).

Tom Steyer is a very human-ly guy who is much different than Mitt Romney. He seems like a guy who's connect to the average Joe, unlike Mitt Romney. He's a very likeable guy (based on his interviews and speeches).

Steyer is also worth $2 billion, so he can self-finance his primary campaign.

I think he'd be a great candidate just in case Hillary implodes.

Biden would be great. He's probably getting in anyway, regardless.

Biden. If he doesn't want in, I guess it'll have to be O'Malley, which is less than ideal but probably workable.

Biden is obviously the one most prepared to jump in as he exploring his options anyway.

Other than that it needs to be someone with a high profile and who is not widely disliked. A late entry with little profile might actually lose to Sanders.

Powers that might be might recruit a woman, for obvious reasons.

Probably Kirsten Gilibrand.

She's an accomplished woman (which gives Democrats a milestone of the first female nominee), with a record that should make liberals happy, but doesn't scare the center.

She's youngish which tends to help Democrats (see JFK, Carter, Clinton, Gore's popular vote, and Obama) and also baggage of earlier culture wars.

If Hillary implodes, I truly believe the establishment will line up behind Joe Biden. It is looking more and more likely that he will enter the race anyways, and I think that he would have enough support to win the nomination. He has my vote if he jumps in, whether Hillary is still in the race or not.

If Hillary were to completely implode, I do think Kirsten Gillibrand or Elizabeth Warren would seriously consider running. Warren's entrance would severely hurt Bernie Sanders, but I think she could also pick up some Hillary voters as well. Gillibrand would be a strong candidate, she's young, exciting, and could appeal to both moderates and liberals.

Tom Steyer is an interesting suggestion, but I don't think that would be the party's best option. I think Steyer could have a future in politics though, but I think he would hold off till 2018 and run for either Governor of California or for Dianne Feinstein's senate seat if she retires.
